Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer/Project Manager to support the design and management of fire protection systems for a wide variety of projects. The ideal candidate will have strong experience using Hydracad or AutoSprink software, with preference given to candidates who have experience with AutoSprink. In addition to design responsibilities, this role will involve managing projects, coordinating with clients, engineers, and contractors, and ensuring that systems are designed and installed according to safety codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design: Create detailed fire sprinkler system designs using Hydracad or AutoSprink (AutoSprink experience preferred). Perform hydraulic calculations, layout designs, and material takeoffs for both new and retrofit projects.
- Project Management: Oversee the execution of fire protection projects from start to finish, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable fire protection codes and regulations.
- Coordination: Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure the fire protection systems integrate seamlessly with overall building designs.
- Compliance: Ensure all fire sprinkler designs meet NFPA standards (13, 14, 20, etc.), local building codes, and industry regulations.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior designers and other team members, ensuring high standards of quality and performance.
- Submittals & Documentation: Prepare submittals, design calculations, and other required project documentation.
- Quality Control: Review and verify the accuracy of designs, material selections, and project specifications to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Troubleshooting: Address any design or installation issues that arise during the project life cycle, working closely with the field team to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
Qualifications:
- Education: Some college is preferred but not required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire sprinkler system design and project management.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Hydracad or AutoSprink required; AutoSprink experience is preferred. Familiarity with other fire sprinkler design software is a plus.
- Certifications: NICET is preferred but not requried.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of NFPA codes, local fire codes, and building regulations.
- Experience with hydraulic calculations, water supply analysis, and system layout design.
- Proven experience managing projects, including coordinating schedules, budgets, and resources.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in both commercial and residential fire sprinkler design.
- Experience working on large or complex projects with tight timelines.
- Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) and Revit is a plus.
