The FAMU Developmental Research School is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for a School Nurse- LPN.
Responsibilities
The FAMU DRS School Nurse, provides direct nursing care to the FAMU DRS K-12 students; Administers medication, first aid, emergency health care, and nursing care prescribed by a medical provider; Evaluates the health status of students by performing health screenings, tests, and physical examinations (i.e., vision, hearing, dental, scoliosis, and blood pressure) and interprets/communicates findings to students, parents/guardians, and school personnel; Serves as a resource to teachers and staff regarding the health needs of students and recommends modifications of the student's educational program/environment as necessary; Maintains proper documentation and health records on all students with the school, prepares/submits reports as required; and complies with laws, regulations, protocols, and School Board policies/procedures as they apply to school health services.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and must be licensed or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code, as Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse. Preference given to candidates with Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and eligible to receive Nationally Certified School Nurse designation.
Recommended Competencies:
- Must possess current CPR certification;
- Must possess the ability to organize a clinic;
- Must possess the ability to manage the health of students and exercise judgement in the application of nursing care;
- Must possess skills in standard nursing procedures and the ability to perform/interpret health screenings and physical examinations;
- Must possess the ability to maintain comprehensive health records, prepare clear/concise medical reports and use appropriate computer systems;
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and outside agencies
Pay Plan
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.
