Florida A&M Unviversity's Controller's Office is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Assistant Controller vacancy.
Responsibilities
Responsible for establishing and maintaining payroll tax and HR vendor account & payable records and ensuring that the University complies with federal, state and local tax guidelines and regulations; Ensures that all tax, health care and retirement EFTs are made to agencies accurately and on time; Responsible for ensuring garnishment payments are set up correctly and that the proper amount is deducted and that the payments are sent to the vendor in a timely manner as required by law; Processes payroll deduction vouchers for each payroll, including off cycles, to make sure they are sent to AP in a timely manner for payment; Responsible for sending the HR accounting lines to the Financials module for each payroll, creating the payroll Journal, and reconciling the Journal to the totals in HCM; Corrects any chart field and budget errors as needed in a timely manner before posting the journal to the GL; Responsible for creating the encumbrance accounting lines in HCM biweekly and sending the lines to the Financials module; and corrects any chart field and budget error as needed in a timely manner before validating the journal.
Distribute encumbrance reports as needed and maintain files for nonresident alien employees and students to ensure correct federal tax compliance; submit the monthly sales tax report to the State of Florida and handle online payments; works with technical staff to keep PeopleSoft tax tables updated; prepares and files quarterly reports for federal payroll taxes, state unemployment, wage listings, and worksite reports; completes and sends the annual Unrelated Business Income Tax report; issue annual W-2 and 1042-S forms on time to employees and the Social Security Administration; handles requests for duplicate W-2s and prepare W-2c forms for any corrections.
Updates employee records in HCM when receiving new information from the Division of Retirement or FAMU Payroll Office; process tax and deduction refunds and submit them to Payroll; provides reports and data uploads to support the Financial Statements team with year-end reporting; investigates and resolve discrepancies in liability accounts.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience. Positions assigned to this class specification additional requirements may be added such as possession of a State of Florida CPA Certificate.

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures;
Highly proficient knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of financial data collection and report preparation;

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;

Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives;
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and,
Ability to represent the University in the appointed area as required.

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
