Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Leadership and Supervision, the Coordinator, Student Affairs (Resident Director) is responsible for the operation and management of the assigned residential community; General responsibilities include but are not limited to paraprofessional staff development, student community development, administration, programming, student conduct support, professional development, professional collaboration with campus partners and overseeing residential facilities office/desk administration.
Compiles weekly maintenance and inspection reports to share with Residence Education and operations staff; Inspects spaces for maintenance issues and readiness during and in between academic terms; Reports observations of facility-related issues or disruptions; Assists in the inventory of University Housing property; Assists in reporting any internal or external lamping (lighting) needs or outages; Assists in the coordination and participation of special projects; Assists with identifying, documenting, and following up on all maintenance and custodial issues within University Housing; Provides policy and procedures interpretation and enforcement of all administrative rules and regulations; Assists with the review and update of University Housing policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as necessary; Keeps accurate maintenance records of work done; and completes and submits accurate reports regarding the current status of facility projects, programs, and issues.
Assists in selecting, training, and supervising the staff in their designated areas; Facilitates the university/departmental orientation and training onboarding process; Provides for each employee’s individual development through periodic performance evaluations and coaching including appropriate documentation; Facilitates ongoing team building activities; Informs subordinates of all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and provides access to all related documents; Assesses and documents subordinates’ ability to comply with all applicable University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Serve as an ethical and informed search committee member; Developing initial coaching skills to assist in supervision; Making recommendations to improve paraprofessional staff retention; Responsible for implementing the residential education model in their respective communities; Training student staff to understand the model and facilitate the planning and employing of intentional student engagements; Conducts appropriate follow-up with staff and students regarding violations; Works collaboratively with the Community Standards Coordinator, Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, and other entities, as necessary; Works with the staff in the development and implementation of activities designed to develop connections between residents; and uses creative and innovative methods to connect to residents personally.
Responds consistently to emergencies with established University policies and procedures; Serves in on-call status to respond to all emergencies; Conducts follow-up evaluations and assessments of all crisis/emergencies utilizing campus and community resources appropriately; Provides/coordinates appropriate training, literature, and programs that enhance residents’ safety and welfare within the facility; Serves on departmental/university committee, as assigned; Assists with the planning of campus-wide educational and social activities; To ensure and facilitate Residence Life programs, services, and student safety, Florida A&M University will embrace a conceptual framework (through current and ongoing renovation projects) that will necessitate live-in requirements; As a live-in staff member in a designated area, they supervise resident assistants, advises student groups, and oversees the facility’s daily operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or a master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
