Florida A&M University Student Financial Services is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Director of University Computer Systems vacancy.

Responsibilities

The incumbent home office will be on the main campus in Tallahassee; He/She will be supported by two coordinators of computer systems, one at the CoPPS IPH in Tallahassee and one at the Durell Peaden Jr. Rural Pharmacy Education Campus; The Director will travel to the Peaden campus monthly to ensure the viability of the Peaden technology functionality and the quality of the student experience; Travels on-demand to the pharmacy practice centers (namely the Northeast Florida PPC in Jacksonville, the Central Florida PPC in Tampa, and the South Florida PPC in Davie) to perform and address IT activities and issues, train personnel, and install or repair hardware/software when online efforts are not effective; Demonstrates instructional skills (verbal and written) to allow him/her to educate learners, staff, and faculty on best practices in IT; Effectively interface with IT support personnel of the College and University and articulate the requirements of the College to IT leaders; and the Peaden Education Campus, as a unit of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health has this FTE as part of its budget and its vitality.

The Director of University Computer Systems will be responsible to provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the College’s technology plan to support curriculum, instruction and assessment; Oversees the technology infrastructure of the College, including devices, internet access, hardware, learning management systems and instructional applications; and ensure that the College website is revised and updated on a regular basis and as needed. The IT Director is the primary, if not the sole person authorized by the CEO Dean to upload content to the site; Webpage authors are responsible for content; The Communications Director edits all webpage content; Develops and implements strategies and provide guidance to administrators and Faculty on best practices to integrate in the curriculum; Coordinates services and provide hardware & software technical support for the faculty and staff of the College of Pharmacy’s several locations; Peaden Rural Pharmacy Education Campus computer and equipment, which include the setup and managing the operation of all computer equipment systems; Analyzes system performance and implement changes for improvement; and demonstrates competency and expertise in the use of CANVAS, Zoom, ExamSoft, ExamMaster, Enflux, Microsoft and other software that support current and evolving College operations.

Assists Faculty by ensuring that all online courses are Quality Matters (QM) certified; Troubleshoots systems hardware and software malfunctions; Takes corrective action; Provides specifications and configuration for the purchase of new equipment; Manages CoPPS IPH Computer Laboratory and a network containing latest Windows Server and attached workstations; Ensures automatic scheduling of classes in Zoom (or other college software)to avoid errors in scheduling and/or delays, and other technical difficulties in the operation of the curriculum delivery; Reviews and analyzes software and determine optimum configuration for installation, as well as customizing and maintaining systems and hardware in the College of Pharmacy located at the Peaden Rural Pharmacy Education Campus; Performs comprehensive diagnostic problem determination and implement required software patches, service packs, updates and/or enhancements to CoPPS, IPH computer software and hardware; This also includes providing updates to virus scan engines and Virus DAT files; and develops Data Backup and (per ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) – Systems Failure) Disaster/Recovery Procedures for the branch servers and computer workstations systems.

Sets up, manages and monitors the operation of all audio/visual and teleconferencing equipment; Develops and maintains service log/database of all of the College computer equipment, keep a service log of all problems, and technical services provided at the Peaden Rural Pharmacy Education Campus and the pharmacy practice centers; Secures and establishes maintenance contracts with vendors for all equipment prior to approval and signature from the College and University administration; Coordinates the design and maintenance of the College website; Performs all tasks/duties associated with the administration of the College network and assuring the functionality of network connectivity/security for the College located on the main campus in Tallahassee, at the Peaden campus, and the three pharmacy practice centers; Supports, proctors and troubleshoots the Examsoft testing software and exams; Serves as primary contact for Enflux® ; Supervise and conduct all Enflux training sessions and oversee data collection for all Enflux reports; and acts as liaison to the University network staff to ensure that the College and the Durell Peaden Jr. Rural Pharmacy Education campuses, and the PPCs receive the best possible network service.

Develops, documents, and maintains library of standards for the use and control of COPPS IPH computer software and hardware; Provides training/materials and assistance to the COPPS IPH staff and learners on departmental software and hardware; Plans and provides training for faculty and staff on the proper use of audio/visual equipment in classrooms and disseminate a frequently-asked-questions document (and/or videos, modules, etc.) on the College website for faculty and staff as a reference to such training; Becomes Quality Matters (QM)-certified within six (6) months of the position starting date; Attends at least one external professional state or national IT annual conference and one educational technology annual conference to ensure that the College stays on the cutting edge of technology; Plans and disseminates aforementioned information to Faculty, Staff, and learners as needed upon return; and preference will be given to sessions held by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

Supports IPH faculty and staff computing needs including Florida Public Health Training Center LPHTC) Grant and webinars; Additional website development FLPHTC Grant, U54 Grant, Create Grant, Dr. Lee Lab website, Dr. Sachdeva Lab website; Supports grant writing technology needs including proposals, quoting and pricing; Supports CE programs (i.e. Teaching Certificate Programs); and performs other University and College Computer Systems functional and operational support as assigned by the CEO Dean, the Executive Associate Dean and/or the Peaden Education Campus Dean, or their representatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or appropriate area of specialization and eight years of related experience; or Master's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or appropriate area of specialization and six years of related experience.

Recommended Competencies

Knowledge of applicable computer software and basic computer functions;

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;

Knowledge of the concept, principles and practices of management;

Knowledge of PeopleSoft development and interfacing methodology;

Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives;

Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives;

Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices to strategically align tasks and people with organizational goals and objectives;

Ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical users;

Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
