Position Summary:
Florida Aquarium Marine Operations Sea Trek Guides are responsible for executing the in-water Sea Trek Experiences.
The Sea Trek Experience provides a dynamic opportunity to inspire our guests by providing them in‐water experiences.
All Florida Aquarium Sea Trek programs are conducted to ensure that all programming presented is safe, engaging, innovative, and effective, as determined by annual customer survey evaluation and direct support of the mission of The Florida Aquarium.
Position Duties:
- Safely execute and support quality in-water Sea Trek experiences
- Guide and entertain Sea Trek guests
- Act as surface attendant; educating, entertaining, and oversight for Sea Trek guests
- Act as safety diver; utilizing scuba gear providing guest safety, photography, and entertainment.
- Deliver extraordinary customer service to all aquarium guests.
- Incorporate the aquarium’s conservation efforts and mission into daily activities.
The Marine Operations Sea Trek Guide Role:
Assisting Sea Trek guests, ensuring they have a fun and memorable experience. As a Sea Trek Guide the primary role is safety. Due to the nature of the guests – nonswimmers, not comfortable in the water, young and old – safety is always the number one priority. You help make a difference in the guest’s experience, which contributes to the experience at the Florida Aquarium and the Sea Trek program.
Education Requirements and Technical Skills
- Rescue Diver Certification
- First Aid Certification
- CPR certification with AED and O2 administration
- Current physical exam
- Minimum 20 documented scuba dives
- Scuba equipment assembly and disassembly
- Regulator recovery and clearing mask
- Mask: remove, replace, clear
- Remove weight belt on surface and underwater
- Remove BDC on surface and underwater
- Demonstrate neutral buoyancy
- Perform and out-of-air ascent from 10’ of water
- Execute the use of an alternate air source as the air donor

Typical Physical Requirements
‐ Sitting, standing, walking – at least 4 hours per day
‐ Bending/stooping, climbing ladders – frequently
‐ Kneeling/squatting, reaching above shoulders – occasionally
‐ Carrying/lifting up to 50 lbs.
‐ Coping with demands (stresses that are associated with the job and/or the work environment) so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
‐ Should be able to climb and descend ladders quickly
‐ Daily contact with a living collection of plants and animals in a central Florida climate
‐ Ability to travel (car, boat, plane, truck) as needed — locally and/or nationally
‐ Exposure to blood borne pathogens
‐ Subject to bites, stings, scrapes and exposure to various plants, animals and birds
‐ Flexibility in working weekends, evenings and holidays
Special Working Conditions
Working conditions include working in outdoor weather conditions, a non‐stable environment (i.e. pitching, heaving, and rolling decks), noisy environment, hot and confined spaces, exposure to toxic/caustic substances and fumes, as well as moving, lifting, and carrying heavy objects.
