What are the responsibilities and job description for the SRDP Project Engineer position at Florida Crystals Corp.?
Florida Crystals is a leading domestic sugar producer and North America’s first fully integrated cane sugar company, guiding our sugar from farm to table. We are America’s first and only producer of certified organic sugar, grown and harvested in the United States. Our renewable energy facility is the largest of its kind in North America and provides clean energy that powers our sugar operations, which helps us reduce our use of fossil fuels. Florida Crystals also sustainably farms rice, sweet corn and other vegetables in rotation with our sugarcane. Our rice mill is the only rice mill in Florida.
The SRDP, under general direction or working independently, oversees and is responsible for supporting water control operations of a large multi-crop agricultural farm. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of hydraulic principles, including designing, purchasing, and installing culverts and pump stations based on the needed flowrates. Candidates will have experience managing large-scale engineering and construction projects. Agricultural experience in sugarcane or other row crops is a plus.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop designs for culverts, pump stations, and other water management infrastructure to optimize farm operations
- Apply hydraulic principles to determine appropriate flow rates and velocities for drainage and irrigation systems
- Provides support in analytical and financial analysis for Capital Projects
- Oversee the selection and purchase of equipment and materials and manage the installation of infrastructure projects
- Responsible for using explosives for improvement of canals / roads, refurbishment of drainage systems & pump stations
- Plan, coordinate, and manage engineering projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery
- Work closely with farm managers, contractors, and suppliers to align infrastructure designs with operational needs
- Ensure that all designs and installations meet local, state, and industry standards
- Conduct inspections and ensure that completed structures are functional, durable, and meet engineering specifications
- Provides technical support and direction to contractors
- Keep records of projects completed, issues encountered, and equipment usage
- Must be able to prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports, maintain records and compose correspondence as required
- Must be able to develop and implement engineering goals, objectives & operational improvements that are consistent with Company’s objectives
