Responsibilities
Compensation & Benefits
- Prepare, process and manage new hire benefits enrollment.
- Prepare new hire materials and assembly of packets.
- Consult and advise employees on benefit plans.
- Conduct analysis and reporting (plan reviews, compliance, contribution modeling etc.).
- Provide general employee assistance.
- Prepare and participate in new hire orientations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Recruiting
- Design, develop and implement company recruiting and retention strategies and practices.
- Gather and maintain all applicant flow data.
- Post job positions internally and externally according to company standards and policy.
- Perform job searches.
- Screen and interview job candidates and schedule interviews
- Prepare and provide candidates with company informational packets.
- Perform required drug testing and background checks.
- Manage the hiring process to ensure compliance with all applicable law and company policy.
- Maintain recruitment/staffing process and communications with business units.
- Maintain company standard job position descriptions.
- Work with hiring managers on resume sourcing, screening, and interviews.
- Manage and support new hire orientation.
- Prepare and participate in panel interviews.
- Coordinate relocation assistance.
- Communicate new hires, exits and other employee changes to appropriate internal departments (e.g., IT, Payroll, Facilities etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
Employee Relations
- Understand various collective bargaining and union labor agreements to ensure compliance related to benefits plans.
- Produce employee communications (e.g., handbooks, policies and procedures, changes to benefits, phonebooks, organizations charts etc.).
- Ensure compliance with state/federal laws.
- Ensure the consistent and fair application of all policies/procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
HRIS (Information Systems)
- Maintain technical and functional competency related to the company’s E-1 PeopleSoft HRIS system.
- Participate and take a HR leadership role in E-1 system development, modifications and testing.
- Maintain training and education related to E-1 functional and technical knowledge.
- Provide functional and technical E-1 support for the HR business unit.
- Take ownership of E-1 problem resolution on behalf of the HR business unit.
- Maintain strong working relationship with IT group.
- Entry, maintenance, backup and extractions of all employee information and data.
- Process employee data changes (adds, modifications, deletes).
- Generate E-1 reports on all aspects of HR (employee, plans, carriers etc.).
- Process terminations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field and minimum of one (1) year of HR related experience, or five (5) years of HR related experience
- Must have experience administering compensation & benefits programs
- Railroad industry experience a plus
- Diplomacy, maturity and ability to keep confidences
- Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
- Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish (Fluent in both oral and written)
- Experience working in a union environment preferred
