    Job Summary :

    We have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Operations Manager. The ideal candidate will expedite routing solutions when faced with operational and customer service circumstances requiring support. They can quickly rebalance work assignments when critical operational decisions are needed, including keeping department heads informed at all times, and will convey updated information to drivers. This candidate will keep operations moving while minimizing daily operational expenses and liabilities. This candidate encourages and builds positive relationships and communicates effectively with all customers, co-workers, and outside vendors. This position is ultimately responsible for the successful completion of daily business objectives.

    Job Description :

    The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily supervision of the drivers and transit functions. This position ensures the driver team’s accountability across all lines of business. They support the Management team with the security of all assets / liabilities while prioritizing successful workflow and daily operational goals. They will coordinate and distribute the routing schedule for all service lines. The Route Supervisor is responsible for ensuring equipment function, drivers’ availability is efficiently utilized, and all operations focus on safety and environmental OHSA Compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    General Description : Will be responsible but not limited to :

    • Manage and direct the field operations and programs in the areas of collection, recycling, and disposal of waste and recyclables.
    • Plan, organize, direct and assigns the work of supervisory and operational staff members.
    • Monitor operational performance and makes recommendations for system improvements with special emphasis in the areas of expected tonnage, vehicle transitions, equipment maintenance and fuel usage, preparation of equipment specifications, award of bid, and coordination of contract services provided to the Division.
    • Execute disciplinary actions, employee counseling, conflict resolution, accident / incident prevention / injury reduction procedures.
    • Administer company policies while overseeing the HR department and ensuring items are carried out according to policy.
    • Develop / Enforce policy manuals and procedures for operating facilities and implementing policy direction; assists in the development of new policy statements and directives; evaluates impact of policy changes on operations activities.
    • Ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, statutes, ordinances and permit conditions as they relate to solid waste and fleet maintenance; reviews proposed regulations to determine potential impacts and proposed amendments. Following all DOL, DOT, and OSHA regulations in the workforce.
    • Develops and implements employee development programs to improve skill levels, and provide an environment for continuous improvement through training programs and team building exercises.
    • Prepares monthly safety meetings and performance reviews, observations, new hire training and or terminations as needed.
    • Always find something that can be improved and assist where necessary to complete daily task. Ie : safety, shop cleanliness, running for parts, filling in on a route, etc
    • Communication and coordinating with the Dispatcher, Maintenance Coordinator and Drivers throughout each business day resolving conflicts or abnormal situations.
    • Assist GM in Daily / Weekly / Monthly Scheduling / Routing of the Maintenance Department overseeing and guiding the maintenance coordinator.
    • Lead by example. Introduce Leadership activities into the company. Develop staff members of all levels. Exhume professional communication with all staff members and customers.
    • Oversee and retain responsibility for all under link supervisor roles. Record / Create daily / weekly, quarterly reports and present to the General Manager. These reports will include topics to include but not limited to : production, profitability, requested changes, safety improvement, staffing, UAR, Southside C&D and maintenance categories. All decisions based on safety, efficiency, and profits.
    • Monitor payroll and approve weekly time sheets / payroll report.
    • Correct / Review any errors or omissions.
    • Availability-respond to all emails daily in a timely fashion. Be available via phone or in person anytime a FEWR truck is operating.
    • Fleet Accountability-know the fleet. Monitor for unreported damage and resolve according to policy. Clean trucks are safe trucks.
    • Lead / Organize the safety committee quarterly meetings with direction from upper management Recommend and or prepare purchase requisitions as needed to GM. In writing, whenever possible.
    • Monitor current and future staffing needs; work with HR to procure all needed staff.
    • Responsible to Oversee all routing of all divisions (PT, RO, FEL, RESI). Approve and review daily routing once dispatch is complete, weekly, monthly and suggest change to GM to improve efficiency, profitability.
    • Manage the Safety Coordinator and make his role to the company worthwhile and always looking to tweak to make the company the safest possible.
    • Cross-train and perform other duties as assigned
    • Required Knowledge and Skills :

    • Knowledge of DOT hour and weight limits
    • Knowledge of individual service lines ordinances, rules, and regulations and ability to enforce firmly, tactfully, and impartially
    • Ability to plan, layout, coordinate, schedule, and effectively supervise
    • Able to maintain detailed records and prepare reports of activities
    • Excellent administrative skills (workflow prioritization / organization and email etiquette)
    • Communicates effectively (written and verbally) at all levels
    • Familiar with dispatch procedures, paperwork, and computer programs (shadow tracker & soft pack)
    • Proficient computer and calculator skills, Alphanumeric data entry, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
    • Minimum Qualifications :

    • Prior experience in transportation coordinating and routing (solid waste or a related field is preferred)
    • Valid State of Florida CDL – preferred endorsements (Tanker)
    • Minimum of 5 years of Operations Management experience in transportation and logistics
    • Minimum 3 year of customer service experience, along with time management and problem-solving skills
    • Department of Transportation requirements

    • Have a valid, non-commercial driver’s license.
    • Minimum of 21 years of age
    • Have a minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
    • Have no active suspensions.
    • Have a valid medical examiner’s certificate.
    • Able to lift at least 50 pounds
    • Preferred Qualifications :

    • Previous experience as a Waste disposal driver
    • Previous experience as a Operations Manager for a waste & recycling company
    • Previous Experience in a logistics role
    • Knowledge of lean / process improvement methodologies

    Salary : $75,000 - $150,000
