Job Summary:
We have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Route Supervisor. The ideal candidate will expedite routing solutions when faced with operational and customer service circumstances requiring support. They can quickly rebalance work assignments when critical operational decisions are needed, including keeping department heads informed at all times, and will convey updated information to drivers. This candidate will keep operations moving while minimizing daily operational expenses and liabilities. This candidate encourages and builds positive relationships and communicates effectively with all customers, co-workers, and outside vendors. This position is ultimately responsible for the successful completion of daily business objectives.
Job Description:
The Route Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of the drivers and transit functions. This position ensures the driver team’s accountability across all lines of business. They support the Management team with the security of all assets/liabilities while prioritizing successful workflow and daily operational goals. They will coordinate and distribute the routing schedule for all service lines. The Route Supervisor is responsible for ensuring equipment function, drivers’ availability is efficiently utilized, and all operations focus on safety and environmental OHSA Compliance.

- Oversee daily operations such as route efficiency, route scheduling, opening and closing of departments
- Route planning for new routes and rebalancing existing routes
- Assist the management team in the selection, training, placement, safety, appraisal, and discipline of assigned personnel
- Respond promptly to management inquiries
- Provide front-line supervision to Florida Express employees
- Maintain a safe and secure environment to ensure that all FEE employees work and return home safely every day
- Contribute content for Safety Meetings based on daily operations observations
- Implement processes to reduce worker’s compensation injury costs and company losses
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and skill development to employees
- Leverage systems, equipment, and process redesign to drive continuous improvement
- Provide and maintain quality customer service
- Ensure customer satisfaction by executing controls and ensuring strict compliance with company procedures:
- Contact customers when required, utilizing proper phone and communication skills
- Develop customer service response procedures geared for win-win outcomes
- Ensure employees are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations required to perform their duties
- Conducts field inspections of residents, businesses, and industrial establishments
- Assist Management as needed to meet company goals
- Cross-train and perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of DOT hour and weight limits
- Knowledge of individual service lines ordinances, rules, and regulations and ability to enforce firmly, tactfully, and impartially
- Ability to plan, layout, coordinate, schedule, and effectively supervise
- Able to maintain detailed records and prepare reports of activities
- Excellent administrative skills (workflow prioritization/organization and email etiquette)
- Communicates effectively (written and verbally) at all levels
- Familiar with dispatch procedures, paperwork, and computer programs (shadow tracker & soft pack)
- Proficient computer and calculator skills, Alphanumeric data entry, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience in transportation coordinating and routing (solid waste or a related field is preferred)
- Valid State of Florida CDL – preferred endorsements (Tanker)
- Minimum of 3 years of operations experience in transportation and logistics
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience, along with time management and problem-solving skills
Department of Transportation requirements
- Have a valid, non-commercial driver’s license.
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Have a minimum of two years of driving experience.
- Have no active suspensions.
- Have a valid medical examiner’s certificate.
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Waste disposal driver
- Knowledge of route analysis and logistics
- Knowledge of lean/process improvement methodologies
Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
