PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

This is a skilled position. Primary responsibilities include all in-house paint and body repair work, as well as mechanical maintenance and repairs on FKAA fleet vehicles and heavy and small equipment and power tools, including, but not limited to, trucks, tractors, and other electric/battery-operated equipment. Position reports to Fleet Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Follow all safety rules and regulations of the department, specifically the standard operating procedures for fleet service operations.

Perform in-house automotive paint and body repair.

Perform all other related work as required, when necessary.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform repairs and maintenance on automotive and other equipment.

Apply knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the paint and body trade.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform repairs and maintenance on automotive electrical systems.

Maintain daily maintenance records of all repair and maintenance performed, as well as paint and body work performed.

Operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; enter repair order information.

Receive various forms, reports, or other documentation; review, complete, process, forward or retain, as appropriate.

Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, exchange information, or resolve problems.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Maintain cleanliness of shop, tools, and restrooms.

Maintain a safe working environment in the shop area.

Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in automotive paint and body and automotive repair work required. Three (3) years’ experience in gasoline and diesel engine heavy equipment repair and maintenance required. Must be able to operate and use computers with various software applications. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License and must obtain and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A within one year of employment in the position. Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language. Must possess tools of the auto mechanic trade and toolbox. Valid certifications (e.g., ASE) preferred.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. Requires ability to use and operate computer for data entry, extraction, modification or updating.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments. Requires knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties, which are often characterized by frequent change.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. All tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, wetness, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, operating machinery, vibrations, or traffic hazards and toxic agents.
