What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinarian position at Florida Keys SPCA?
Who We Are:
The Florida Keys SPCA (FKSPCA) is a private, nonprofit, open admission shelter dedicated to saving lives through mission driven programs. The FKSPCA is the only open-admission animal welfare organization in the lower and middle Florida Keys and is proud to maintain a live release rate of over 90%. We accept every animal that comes to our door regardless of health or temperament. The FKSPCA commits to finding a home for every adoptable pet and expends all resources upon recommendations of the veterinarian to treat animals that need our help in order to save as many as we can. The FKSPCA serves over 3,000 animals annually through adoption, cruelty investigation, animal control, and clinic programs. The FKSPCA is searching for a DVM who can lead the medical department in its part in our lifesaving mission by offering free and affordable spay neuter programs as well as wellness programs through the in house and mobile clinic to keep animals with their families as opposed to surrender.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced veterinarian for FKSPCA medical programs to include shelter medicine, spay-neuter for shelter animals and public pets, and preventative wellness services for animals of our community. The applicant should have experience with shelter medicine, spay neuter, dentistry, preventative health care and internal medicine. Communication skills and dedication to the mission of the FKSPCA are a must. Forensic veterinary medicine is a plus. Must understand the role the FKSPCA has in assisting pet owners who otherwise would be unable to provide medical care for their pets due to financial constraints. Must be comfortable speaking in public and with pet owners and have a good sense of humor.
The candidate must be eligible to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Florida. The FKSPCA offers an excellent benefits package, full medical and LTD, voluntary dental, vision and life insurance, generous PTO, CE and holiday compensation, 401k and discounts on veterinary services for employee pets through the FKSPCA clinic. The FKSPCA values the importance of a healthy work-life balance for its employees. This position has the opportunity to create a healthy work schedule that provides time to enjoy living in paradise.
