Job Title: Medical Check-In/Check-Out and Insurance Verification Coordinator
Location: Lehigh Acres, FL 33971
Job Type: Full-Time (In-Office)
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 36–40 per week
Florida Lung & Sleep Associates is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Medical Check-In/Check-Out and Insurance Verification Coordinator. This dual-role position will help ensure a seamless patient experience while providing excellent customer service and maintaining accuracy in insurance processes.
Responsibilities
Patient Check-In Duties:
- Greet patients warmly and professionally.
- Verify and update patient demographics, insurance details, and required signatures.
- Notify the back office of patient arrivals and track waiting room activity.
- Schedule/reschedule appointments and follow-up visits.
- Enter prescription refill requests.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
- Document and follow up on no-show appointments.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming patient waiting area.
Patient Check-Out Duties:
- Complete check-out procedures, including collecting payments.
- Review and enter diagnosis codes and schedule diagnostic tests or follow-ups.
- Explain fees and patient financial responsibilities.
- Contact medical facilities for scheduling additional tests or procedures.
Insurance Verification and Authorization Duties:
- Use Athena, Availity, and other software to verify benefits, eligibility, and co-pays.
- Obtain prior authorizations for office procedures.
- Contact PCPs for referrals and coordinate documentation for authorizations.
- Update EMR systems with accurate insurance and patient information.
- Troubleshoot and resolve insurance-related issues.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a medical receptionist and 6 months in insurance verifications/authorizations.
- Familiarity with Athenahealth is preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes (required).
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Language: Spanish fluency (required).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Schedule and Work Environment
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts.
- Work performed in an office setting with frequent staff interaction and occasional patient communication.
