Job Duties
- Obtains specimens from assigned pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in a safe, accurate and comfortable manner, following established standards and practices.
- Possess thorough knowledge of laboratory specimen collection and processing procedures, and shipping.
- Receives incoming specimens and requisition forms, inspects items for completeness, correctness of information, and condition of specimens.
- Pours specimen fluid from master tube into test tubes to create required number of test samples.
- Enters required patient and customer data, diagnosis codes, and billing information into computer system.
- Centrifuges or performs other tasks to prepare specimens for testing.
- Reviews all specimens, documents, and computer files and notifies designated staff of errors.
- Answers telephone and provides information to customers.
- Performs clerical duties including but not limited to faxing, filing, and result/report delivery via fax or mail.
- Willingness to seek out opportunities that add value to the job each day.
- May be required to drive company vehicle and to pick up samples from outside facilities, as needed.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Phlebotomy certification highly preferred
- Phlebotomy license in state of practice, if required
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to prioritize a variety of tasks
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record'
