Duties

As a, SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER, WL-3806-10, you will regularly and recurring basis during shift operations, leads three or more mechanics preforming the work of the shop. Monitor the work of assigned technicians by passing along dispatch and/or in-shop production assignments as directed by the supervisor and/or maintenance control, insures that needed materials, tools, and equipment are available, and obtains needed stock from supply locations as necessary. Works along with assigned technicians and sets the pace, performing nonsupervisory sheet metal work. Ensure assigned technicians attend to work in order to insure full utilization of personnel and completion of assignments in accordance with established timeframes and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with supervisor's instructions, appropriate tech orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assures that safety, housekeeping, security and other environmental rules are followed. Advise the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delay, and overall work operations, problems, and individual performance (e.g., additional onthe-job training requirements for individual employees.) As requested by the supervisor, provides section planning factors for maintenance planning, and on a daily basis, recommnends adjustments, when necessary, in workshift schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of section requirements.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Works under the general supervision of the Structural Repair Shop Foreman. Assignments are given in the form of work orders, inspection reports, or verbal instructions. Is expected to select tools and repair parts, and otherwise carry assignments through to completion, referring only unusual and difficult problems to the foreman. Work is subject to spot check upon completion for acceptability end adherence to instructions and established standards. Guidelines available for reference include technical orders and manuals, manufacturers' specifications, factory engineering bulletins and standard operation procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in a variety of weather conditions; wet, slippery and icy roads, aircraft surfaces and work stands, in extreme temperature and humidity. Subject to the angers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as leading gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating device, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, solvents and other hazardous material.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709" and is open to Category 1 & 3 Only. Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency WITH dual FL National Guard military membership; Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard. First consideration will be given to Category 1.

PCS:Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

FLANG BUS Code NG0523: This position is "included" in the bargaining unit and eligible for labor organization representation. The current exclusive representative is The Association of Civilian Technicians, Chapter 86 and the President is Mr. Robert Morgan at rmorgan@actnat.com.

Military Grades - Enlisted: E5 - E7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training that has provided you with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WL-10: Must have at least 24 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams; experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment; experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys; experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments; experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series; must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment; ability to provide guidance and lead others in work related directly to this occupational series.
