Major Responsibilities : A VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten) teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging classroom environment that supports the developmental growth and learning of young children. They design and implement a curriculum that fosters cognitive, social, and emotional development. Additionally, VPK teachers instruct and supervise children, encouraging them to use their mental capacities and imagination, while ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere for all students.

Key Responsibilities :

1.              Communication Management : Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.

1.       Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance : Ensure strict adherence to the Little Angels Children Development Center’s mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards and institutional effectiveness process.

2.              Engagement : Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, events, committees, self-studies, and Commencement Ceremonies.

3.              Special Projects : Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor.

4.              Compliance Adherence : Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules, and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

5.              Assigned Duties : Undertake other assigned duties as required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities :

1.       Implement a Florida-approved VPK curriculum aligned with the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards (FELDS) and the center’s Creative Curriculum to foster children’s learning and growth.

2.       Plan and execute engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that incorporate literacy, math, science, social studies, art, and motor skills.

3.       Utilize play-based and hands-on teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and developmental levels.

4.       Integrate social-emotional learning and classroom routines that promote positive behavior.

5.       Design and facilitate indoor and outdoor activities suited to children’s developmental stages.

6.       Provide responsive care, adapting routines and activities to meet individual and group needs.

7.       Conduct formal and informal assessments, including the Florida VPK Assessment (Beginning, Mid-Year, and End-of-Year).

8.       Maintain student portfolios documenting progress in key developmental areas.

9.       Identify children who may need additional support and communicate concerns with parents and administrators.

10.   Foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment that supports child development.

11.   Ensure compliance with Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations and Office of Early Learning (OEL) guidelines.

12.   Establish a structured daily schedule incorporating circle time, small group activities, center-based learning, and outdoor play.

13.   Conduct daily health and safety checks, ensuring hygiene, well-being, and documenting incidents as necessary.

14.   Utilize positive behavior management strategies and create individualized plans as needed.

15.   Maintain a clean, organized classroom environment, including toys, materials, and the playground area.

16.   Maintain open, ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress, developmental milestones, and classroom activities.

17.   Conduct parent-teacher conferences as required by the VPK program.

18.   Work collaboratively with daycare staff and administration to ensure program success.

19.   Communicate daily with parents about their child’s progress or concerns.

20.   Ensure accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, meal records, playground logs, and attendance records.

21.   Complete and maintain cleaning and medication logs as required.

22.   Participate in staff development and in-service training programs (minimum 1 0 hours per school year).

23.   Complete an annual self-evaluation and set personal development goals.

24.   Adhere to punctuality and dress code policies, including wearing the photo ID provided by the center.

25.   Actively participate in extracurricular activities organized by the center.

26.   Schedule planned absences at least one week in advance and notify the director immediately in case of emergencies.

Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of experience as a Teacher at a Child Care Center or related facility / school.
  • Education : Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC), or associate degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Certification : Must hold a Florida VPK Instructor Credential issued by the Florida Office of Early Learning (OEL).
  • Experience : Prior experience in early childhood education, preferably in a VPK or preschool setting.
  • Background Check : Must pass Level 2 Background Screening, as required by Florida law.
  • Training : Completion of Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) required training courses, including health, safety, and literacy training.

CPR AED & First Aid (Pediatric). Required or willingness to obtain.
