Job Overview
The Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund (FSRMF) is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Accountant to join our dynamic Florida Sheriffs Employee Benefits (FSEBT) team. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen and a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Accountant will work closely with our FSEBT Team to support budgeting, billings, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes.
Responsibilities
- As directed, participates in all functions of accounting, including but not limited to, accounts payable, billings, accounts receivable and financial reporting, both month-end and year-end closing
- Facilitates all areas of financial reporting
- Processes and prepares month-end accounting detail, analysis, support, reconciliations and journal entries
- Assists in preparing various analyses and improving data analytics
- Reviews processes, internal controls, advises upon enhancement opportunities, and assists in the implementation of approved enhancement measures
- Documents policies and procedures
As directed, other tasks may include, but not be limited to:
- Reinsurance or stop-loss accounting and reporting
- Investment accounting and reconciliations
- Activity and cost accounting, invoice processing and check printing as needed
- Participation in year-end financial audits and actuarial reserve study
- Research and analytics
- Cash receipt handling, posting and reconciliation as needed
- Issue management and tracking
- Fixed asset accounting
- Special projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting fundamentals inclusive of journal entry preparation, financial reporting, rules, principles, processes, and internal controls.
- Strong aptitude for numbers and working with people.
- Hands-on experience in operating spreadsheets and accounting software.
- Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office products.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
