What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roberts Academy Instructor position at Florida Southern College?
The Roberts Academy teacher creates an environment favorable to learning and personal growth for children with dyslexia; plans and implements teaching strategies for children with dyslexia; establishes effective rapport with students; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge; and establishes positive relationships with parents, staff, and faculty members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide daily instruction to students.
2. Prepare weekly age-appropriate lesson plans for students.
3. Collaborate with the Roberts Academy faculty and staff.
4. Earn the first level of Orton-Gillingham certification during the first year of service at the school and follow the timeline for earning all remaining levels of certification.
5. Participate in Orton-Gillingham professional development and other training as required.
6. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences using the Orton-Gillingham approach for teaching reading and language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science.
7. Evaluate student learning growth and maintain appropriate documentation of progress.
8. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, both written and oral, throughout the year.
9. Contribute to the success of the Roberts Academy by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Florida Department of Education teaching certification.
- Earned bachelor’s degree in education.
- Fingerprinting clearance and background check including VECHS approval.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with K-12 students in a teaching capacity.
- Desire to work with students in a private school learning environment.
- Professional dress and demeanor.
