What are the responsibilities and job description for the Standardized Patient, Temporary, PT - Nursing position at Florida Southern College?
JOB SUMMARY: The Standardized Patient is a temporary, part-time role reporting directly to the MSN Program Director. The incumbent will be an active participant in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) of the nursing students. The role will include portraying the characteristics of a real patient, including simulating signs and symptoms specific to the assigned condition or scenario. As part of the OSCE and the nursing student’s learning, the standardized patient may be physically examined by the student and nursing faculty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates flexibility with scheduling and assignments, including the ability to work flexible hours on an as needed basis
2. Highly reliable and punctual
3. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including but not limited to, memorizing a case script detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations
4. Participates in training as needed
5. Remains in a specific patient character as trained when responding to student questions
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including providing constructive feedback to the nursing student
7. Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with learners, faculty, supervisors, and peers
8. Ability to recall case information, as cued by students in a role-play situation, including a history of present illness, affect/behavior, and physical findings
9. Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and feedback evaluations
10. Participates in physical examinations as need while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video
11. Comfortable with audio and videotaping of simulation including physical examination (no reproductive or intimate examinations will be performed)
12. Contribute to the overall success of the school and programs by completing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School or Nursing and Health Sciences, Executive Assistant to the Dean, or Program Director.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor degree in related field preferred.
2. Experience in a support role for service organizations. Experience with higher education institutions preferred.
3. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
4. Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be highly detail orientated, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
5. Must demonstrate high levels of initiative and autonomy in promoting the mission and vision of the SNHS.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Must be able to: move all extremities without difficulty, step up and down from an exam table, and quickly change from a gown to clothing.
2. No or very limited physical effort required.
3. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
4. COVID-19 Vaccination Required.
