Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician

Reporting to: Behavioral Health Technician Lead/Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Technician’s primary responsibility is to perform point of care testing, monitor clients in the absence of clinical and medical personnel, and establish rapport with clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to: Behavioral Health Technician Lead/Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Technician’s primary responsibility is to perform point of care testing, monitor clients in the absence of clinical and medical personnel, and establish rapport with clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish rapport with clients.
  • Always treat clients with respect and dignity.
  • Monitor client’s behavior and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Comply with procedures as they pertain to unobserved and observed urine drug screen collections.
  • Monitor clients for need to contact the nursing staff.
  • Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sort specimens, check labeling; log specimens; arrange reports for delivery; keep work surfaces clean and orderly. Maintain client confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
  • Assist with bio-hazardous waste pick up and record keeping.
  • Identify and communicate abnormal client conditions by alerting supervisory personnel.
  • Assist staff with related duties as needed.
  • Report unusual behavior or conversations to counselor of the day or supervisor.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for clients and co-workers by following established standards and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a sound relationship with community partners.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records or reports.
  • Participate in internal training programs.
  • Type detailed shift briefing reports to pass onto Lead BHT and scheduled BHT(s).
  • Co-facilitate psychoeducational groups.
  • Assist in monitoring clients’ behavior in 12 step meeting.
  • Monitor clients during meals.
  • Be present and monitor client behavior during experiential groups.
  • Escorts clients for breaks and to meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Experience in a social service environment preferred.
  • Must be willing to become certified in First Aid and CPR

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to personally provide high level of service to targeted client population.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and persuasively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic and tactful manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive safely.
  • Ability to work effectively in an atmosphere of dignity and respect for clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits with clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, planning, scheduling and organizing professional schedule to complete actions within established deadlines and handling multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
  • Computer competency and working knowledge of EHR software applications.
