We provide services statewide, with primary needs currently in Marion County and Alachua County.
Position Overview:
Florida Visually Impaired and Blind Services (FLVBS) is excited to welcome a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to our team! This role involves providing specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students across school districts. We offer competitive pay ($40 per hour), flexible scheduling, and an opportunity to work autonomously while making a meaningful impact.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field.
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations, particularly related to visual impairments.
- Experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with visual impairments.

Responsibilities:
- Travel to various school districts to provide vital educational services (travel time compensated)
- Regularly attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement effective educational plans.
- Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVAs) and Learning Media Assessments (LMAs) to determine students' educational needs and develop appropriate strategies.
- Provide direct instruction in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility (if certified), adaptive technology (if certified), and other specialized skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure the implementation of accommodations and modifications to facilitate students' access to the curriculum.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with stakeholders, including parents and school personnel.
- Stay updated on best practices, research, and developments in the field of visual impairment education.
