The architect will orchestrate systems designed to handle the exhaustive demands of high-volume data mining, extraction, and collection workflows, alongside the seamless operation of distributed web crawling and scraping entities capable of aggregating and validating structured and unstructured data from heterogeneous sources at internet scale.

As a Senior Systems Architect Intern, your primary responsibility will be to architect complex distributed, microservices-based, domain-driven design, and event-driven architecture (EDA) systems using industry-leading design patterns. You will work closely with senior engineers to deploy scalable and fault-tolerant services that integrate with Flow's AI platforms. This position will involve designing systems that scales to handle petabytes amounts of data in real-time, while also ensuring high availability and low-latency performance across distributed environments.

The Senior Systems Architect Intern role requires a supremely advanced level of technical expertise in designing, building, and maintaining massively distributed systems capable of processing and orchestrating petabyte-scale data mining, extraction, and collection with absolute precision and efficiency. This position demands mastery in the conceptualization and implementation of distributed web crawling and scraping architectures, where highly parallelized, multi-region systems operate seamlessly under the demands of relentless, continuous 24/7/365 uptime requirements. The architect must possess unparalleled expertise in engineering architectures that integrate Domain-Oriented Microservices coupled with polyglot persistence principles, wherein each service operates autonomously yet harmoniously within a resilient ecosystem.

The Senior Systems Architect Intern’s responsibilities includes the design and maintenance of a Domain-Oriented Microservices Architecture that operates under the principles of event-driven communication and polyglot persistence. The event-driven framework must employ advanced message-brokering technologies, such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ, enabling microservices to emit and react to events with sub-millisecond latencies. Each microservice must be architected with autonomy in mind, employing databases optimized for their unique workloads—ranging from graph databases like Neo4j for complex relationship modeling, to distributed columnar stores like Apache Cassandra for high-throughput transactional data, and object-based storage for unstructured datasets such as JSON or multimedia files. The seamless integration of these data stores into a cohesive polyglot persistence strategy is imperative for achieving both operational efficiency and scalability.

The architect must demonstrate an extraordinary capacity to engineer systems rooted in Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), where events act as the primary conduit for inter-service communication. This involves defining intricate schemas for immutable event payloads, implementing robust message serialization protocols (e.g., Avro, Protocol Buffers), and designing fault-tolerant consumer patterns that achieve exactly-once delivery semantics even under adversarial network conditions. The architecture must incorporate advanced stream processing frameworks like Apache Flink or Apache Storm, ensuring real-time event enrichment, transformation, and aggregation across high-velocity data streams.

Key to the microservices strategy is the application of Polyglot Persistence Principles, a sophisticated design philosophy that mandates the selection of database technologies tailored to the unique operational and analytical requirements of individual services. Expertise is required in ACID-compliant relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle DB) for transactional consistency; graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, JanusGraph) for traversing highly connected data sets; NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB) for semi-structured and schema-less storage; and object storage solutions (e.g., MinIO, Azure Blob Storage) for managing unstructured data payloads with elasticity. This approach demands proficiency in data modeling, indexing strategies, replication configurations, and query optimization across these paradigms.

The implementation of Polyglot Persistence demands that each microservice employs a database technology optimized for its specific operational requirements. For instance, relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora) must support structured transactional data, while graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, JanusGraph) manage complex relational queries. Concurrently, wide-column stores like Apache Cassandra or HBase are employed for high-throughput analytics, and object storage systems such as AWS S3 or MinIO are used for storing vast volumes of unstructured data. Expertise in multi-model database design, index optimization, query planning, and CAP theorem trade-offs is critical for achieving optimal system performance and data consistency.

The senior architect will design systems epitomizing elasticity and resilience. Microservices must auto-scale horizontally in response to dynamic workloads, orchestrated through Kubernetes clusters using HPA (Horizontal Pod Autoscaling), node affinity rules, and resource request/limit tuning to optimize cost efficiency and performance. The systems must exhibit failover resilience, leveraging circuit breaker patterns, rate-limiting strategies, and multi-region active-active setups validated by chaos engineering practices via tools such as Gremlin or Chaos Monkey.

The ideal candidate must architect elastic and resilient microservices capable of auto-scaling horizontally under load surges and gracefully recovering from partial system issues without compromising availability. These services must incorporate advanced fault tolerance mechanisms like retry strategies, circuit breaker patterns, and chaos engineering principles to simulate and mitigate systemic failures preemptively. The architecture must align with the CAP theorem to balance consistency, availability, and partition tolerance in distributed environments, employing techniques like quorum-based consensus protocols (e.g., Raft, Paxos) for distributed state synchronization.

Services must also exhibit properties of independent deployability, allowing for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to update individual components without service downtime. Expertise in crafting pipelines using tools such as ArgoCD, Tekton, or Jenkins is required, along with advanced strategies for rolling updates, canary releases, and blue-green deployments. Inter-service communication must be implemented using lightweight protocols such as gRPC, RESTful APIs, or asynchronous event buses, ensuring low latency, high throughput, and backward compatibility through meticulous versioning and schema evolution practices.

An advanced understanding of observability principles is imperative, where every microservice emits structured telemetry data, including logs, traces, and metrics, to centralized observability platforms such as Datadog, Elastic Stack, or Prometheus/Grafana. Proficiency in distributed tracing tools like Jaeger or OpenTelemetry is essential to diagnose inter-service latencies, identify bottlenecks, and optimize performance across the ecosystem. Additionally, the architect must implement intelligent anomaly detection algorithms to enable proactive monitoring and predictive issue prevention.

The position demands unrivaled expertise in containerization technologies, with a focus on deploying and managing containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes. The architect must be proficient in designing multi-region, highly available Kubernetes clusters, implementing advanced resource scheduling policies, and configuring service meshes like Istio or Linkerd to manage secure inter-service communication with zero-trust principles. The use of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation must be integral to the architect's toolkit, enabling reproducible, scalable, and cloud-agnostic infrastructure deployments.

The position demands fluency in cloud-agnostic infrastructure provisioning and orchestration. Using tools like Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation, the architect will design systems abstracted from vendor lock-in, capable of deploying seamlessly across multi-cloud and any cloud environments, with advanced network configurations, including private VPCs, cross-region peering, and hybrid cloud integrations. Additionally, expertise in serverless computing paradigms, such as AWS Lambda or Google Cloud Run, is required to architect ephemeral, event-triggered functions that complement microservices for cost-efficient burst handling.

The role also requires expertise in high-level and low-level networking, encompassing proficiency in configuring virtual private clouds (VPCs), designing network overlay solutions, and optimizing traffic flow using load balancers and reverse proxies like NGINX or Envoy. The candidate must demonstrate mastery over foundational protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, and port management, with an ability to implement network security measures such as TLS/SSL encryption, mutual authentication, and advanced firewall rules.

Networking capabilities must span both high- and low-level domains. The architect will design robust systems with advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, and layer 7 application protocols, incorporating load balancers (e.g., NGINX, Envoy), service meshes (e.g., Istio, Linkerd), and end-to-end encryption via mutual TLS. They will also optimize performance using SDN (Software Defined Networking) strategies and implement security controls for port management, SSH tunneling, and API gateway configurations.

Moreover, the architect must exhibit advanced capabilities in shell scripting and automation, leveraging tools like Bash, Python, or PowerShell to orchestrate deployment workflows, automate environment configurations, and optimize Linux kernel parameters for high-performance compute workloads. Mastery of remote access protocols, including SSH, and proficiency in debugging distributed systems in containerized and virtualized environments are non-negotiable.

Observability will be paramount, with centralized telemetry enabling real-time monitoring, distributed tracing, and diagnostic analysis across all microservices. Leveraging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, the architect will implement exhaustive monitoring pipelines, while employing Jaeger or Zipkin for distributed tracing and root cause analysis. These observability stacks must integrate seamlessly with AI-driven anomaly detection frameworks to preemptively identify and mitigate potential system issues.

Finally, expert proficiency in scripting and automation is essential for managing the intricate operational tasks that underpin such a complex ecosystem. The architect must demonstrate fluency in Bash, Python, or Go for developing custom deployment scripts, performance tuning, and CI/CD pipeline automation. Expertise in containerization technologies like Docker is critical for creating immutable artifacts, while advanced shell scripting will be employed for debugging, log analysis, and dynamic system adjustments at runtime.

Throughout the position, you will create and maintain elaborative and comprehensive technical documentation that captures the architecture design, infrastructure configurations, and system processes, ensuring clarity and continuity for future development efforts. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, providing technical expertise and contributing to innovative solutions that drive the development of Flow's AI solutions.

This position demands not only an extreme technical virtuoso, but an individual capable of envisioning and executing architectures that push the boundaries of distributed computing, setting new benchmarks in performance, scalability, and reliability. Candidates must be prepared to operate at the highest echelon of technical engineering, translating cutting-edge theories into tangible, operationally excellent systems.
