Position Overview: Work in the Health Information Management (HIM) Department assisting to keep health records secure and up to date, assisting answering the phone and greeting patients, assist in release of information, scanning, analytics, and other HIM duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, patient confidentiality according to standards and government regulations.
- Attentive to detail and critical thinking.
- Ability to multitask.
- Answer the phone.
- Assist patients with the portal.
- Assist patients coming into the HIM Department.
- Complete patient requests for records.
- Prep charts for scanning.
- Scanning records.
- Indexing scanned charts.
- Quality review of scanned charts.
- Deficiency analysis.
- Proofread dictations.
- Review charts, prepare, and send out for missing signature.
- Assists in inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment.
- Assists in maintenance of safe, clean work environment.
- Assists with the general operation of the HIM Department.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prefer post high school coursework in medical records, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years medical records area experience.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the clinical content of a health record.
- Knowledge of and experience in HIM Department functions
Additional Qualifications:
- Proficient computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams) required.
- Above average spelling/grammar, and keyboarding skills (50 wpm with accuracy) required.
- Ability to work independently.
