Position Overview: The Patient Access Clerk 1 is committed to providing an exceptional customer experience to all Floyd County Medical Center patients. Responsible for the efficient registering of all patients presenting to the Floyd County Medical Center for Emergency, Inpatient, Outpatient Observation admissions and all patients having hospital-based testing and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses excellent customer skills when conversing with patients, both face-to-face and over the phone and presents a professional image of Floyd County Medical Center.
- Ensures the patient information is collected and patients are aware of hospital policy and procedures.
- Understands insurance benefits, prior authorization requirements, etc. and assists in ensuring these requirements are met before or when the patient presents for testing or procedure.
- Operates copiers, fax, and other required equipment needed to accomplish tasks.
- Assists coordinator in ensuring physician orders are complete for outpatient hospital testing requirements.
- Interviews incoming patient/patient representative and enters information into the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments.
- Maintains communication with the House Supervisor and nursing staff, Emergency Department, Business Office, Health Information Management, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies, Outpatient Specialty Clinic and Medical Clinic, Laboratory and Radiology services.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year of experience dealing with the general public in a service-oriented position.
- Previous experience working in a hospital desirable.
