Position Overview :
The Senior Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing our research and development efforts in the engineering and testing of 3D pancreatic tissue for the treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D). The ideal candidate will have a robust background in pancreatic cell biology and tissue engineering.
Responsibilities :
Design and Execute Experimental Research Plans : Create, implement, and lead rigorous scientific research plans with junior scientists to evaluate experimental methods for maturing engineered pancreatic tissue.
Assay Development for Evaluating Engineered Pancreatic Tissue : Lead the design and optimization of molecular biology assays for quantifying the quality, functionality, and maturity of engineered 3D pancreatic tissues.
Data Analysis and Interpretation : Appropriately analyze and interpret the results from cellular and molecular biology assays. Corroborate and lead a research team to refine experimental strategies based on data-driven insight from said results.
Continuous Learning and Teaching of Scientific Techniques : Stay updated with the latest advancements in molecular biology and diabetes research. Create robust scientific protocols and disseminate knowledge to fellow team members to continually grow the research capabilities of the organization.
Skills & Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of relevant research experience in cell biology with an emphasis in pancreatic cell biology for therapeutic applications.
Proven expertise in molecular biology assays such as gene expression analysis, Western blot, flow cytometry, and histological techniques, as well as assays relevant to pancreatic research to assess islet purity (e.g., DTZ staining), viability (e.g., metabolic and apoptosis assays), and function (e.g., GSIS).
Experience with gene editing technologies and transcriptomic or proteomic analysis.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams.
Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask and flourish in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Education :
PhD degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field with a focus on pancreatic cell biology.
