What are the responsibilities and job description for the Control Systems Principal Technical Specialist position at Fluor Corp?
The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and direction as listed. This position has oversight of a specific area, and acts as a representative to the department ensuring technical accuracy in project execution in all phases. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This is the Technical Lead position on assigned projects or performs technical assignments of any complexity.
• Translate global strategic initiatives into procedures to be implemented on projects
• Act as a leader in applying cost competitive execution techniques and develop the most cost- effective total project solution for the discipline technical work
• Serve as Supervising Lead providing guidance/supervision to other leads and function as mentor to less experienced engineers including performance appraisal input and counseling
• Develop and build external relations with client representatives, vendors and subcontractors and interface closely with other discipline functions promoting Client Service Excellence
• Monitor and support work performed by Fluor offices or other designated entities performing Distributed Execution Engineering
• Develop and review project Scope of Services, Scope of Facilities, and other project baseline documents for all phases of projects
• Identify deviations in job scope, estimate magnitude of changes, and initiate trends or change orders
• Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including workforce forecasts
• Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
• Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
• Other duties as assigned• Accredited two (2) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twenty-five (25) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty-seven (27) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
• Managing and leading a large project
• Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs• Check or audit of wiring and loop diagrams
• Check or audit control systems 3D models and drawings
• Advanced knowledge to check or audit the development of control systems area and unit location plan drawings
• Perform and or check design calculations (e.g. ,wire sizing, conduit fill, voltage drop, junction box or panel sizing)
• Create and check assignment of instrument installation details
• Perform control systems design reviews
• Perform control systems field surveys
• Advanced knowledge of:
o Hexagon Smart® Instrumentation software
o Hexagon Smart® Review software
o 3D modeling software (Hexagon Smart® 3D, etc.)
o Control systems to allow for supervision of the control systems design activities
o Fluor design guides, control systems technical practices and control systems design drawings
o Control systems representation on drawings and knowledge of 2D computer aided design (CAD) and 3D systems and procedures
o Piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) representation; has the ability to recognize/resolve problems associated with control systems representation on P&ID
