What are the responsibilities and job description for the Layout Design Specialist (Piping Space Manager) position at Fluor Corp?
The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative, technical knowledge, and direction as listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor's competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position serves as Design Area Lead on assigned projects and performs 3D layout with moderate to difficult complexity design scope.
• Prepare 3D layouts and/or schematics for conceptual and detailed designs of advanced complexity
• Conduct reviews of model using 3D review platform and create 3D models of advanced complexity
• Check work done by other Designers
• Develop estimates, schedules, staffing requirements, progress reports, and key quantities tracking reports
• Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
• Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
• Other duties as assigned• Accredited two (2) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twenty (20) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty-two (22) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines

• Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs• Strong leadership skills, communication skills, follow-through, work ethic
• Basic understanding of EPC project execution – scopes, schedules, estimates, execution plans and Project management skills
• Higher than average proficiency in 3D model navigation (Navisworks Power User)
• Proficient in working in BIM environments in various phases of a project (basic design, detailed design, construction)
• At least 15 years’ experience in a 3D design discipline – understands design work processes
• At least 5 yr experience in Life Sciences or Microelectronic type projects (indoor clean/ hygienic manufacturing) – understands these facilities
• At least one very large, multi-area project (TIC > $1B) in this industry
• Previous management experience in a discipline (design lead, discipline lead, MEP work package owner, etc.)
• 3D Design experience in Autodesk Plant 3D or Revit and S3D
• Project set-up experience would be a plus
• Field experience in MEP coordination a plus
• Piping design background a plus
• Basic database skills; proficient at 3D data management a plus• Reports to Engr Mgt and acts as the overall space planner, space manager/traffic cop, and QC’s the 3D model periodically from a technical design perspective
• Interfaces with all Design Disciplines – design leads and engineering to create and maintain work areas per discipline, per building.
• Work with Piping to develop and issue space management plans for each major area in BD phase
• Work with Engr Mgt to develop model management plans, develop model maturity matrices, model review framework
• QC’s the 3D model periodically. Conducts Model Readiness audits. Leads internal design reviews/ model reviews with inter-discipline teams. Focus on consistency of approach across area.
• Perform visual clash management in BD phase and participate in clash resolutions after active/ electronic clash management begins.
• Participates in external design reviews/ model reviews with inter-discipline teams (or serve as backup for a Node PE)
• Interfaces with BIM Manager and BIM coordinator
• Interfaces with client Engr Mgt and Node Leads on an as needed basis
• Interfaces with design contractors as needed (for example, kick off meetings and explaining the model management/ space management plans)
• Assists with training team members in space management and model review best practices
