The Material Handling group of Fluor’s Mining and Metals business line is involved in all aspects of design and engineering of large scale belt conveyors, crushing & screening stations, bulk material storage & reclaim solutions, and rail loading & unloading facilities for the mining industry.
The successful candidate will work within a project team to complete the project deliverables and documentation required for study level reports or construction. This position will require familiarity with mechanical equipment on an engineering level and understanding of how it feeds into design decisions related to sizing, selection, and layout of industrial facilities.
Some responsibilities and tasks are as follows:
• Create and update mechanical equipment specifications and datasheets to a level sufficient enough to issue for quotation and/or purchase to equipment suppliers;
• Review supplier equipment documentation for purchased equipment and update Project mechanical equipment lists with supplier information;
• Carry out various calculations including conveyor calculations to estimate equipment size and power requirements;
• Review and approve supplier bidders lists, prepare quotation requests/bid tabulations/purchase orders and review substitutions for technical acceptability;
• Receive instructions from senior members of the project team and also provide instructions to junior members of the team.
• Coordinate with other engineering and non-engineering groups of the Project to satisfy company and Project requirements.
• Learn and understand health, safety, and environmental factors in design;
• Other duties as assigned• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and six (6) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Five (5) or more years of work-related engineering experience dealing with mechanical equipment
• A professional certification or registration in a recognized professional engineer association or eligibility to apply for such registration
• Ability to communicate and correspond effectively in English with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors;• Work experience in an engineering consulting firm or mining company dealing with mechanical equipment;
• Knowledge of material handling equipment: crushers, conveyors, screens, reclaimers, truck / rail / ship loading & unloading;
• Knowledge of belt conveyor related standards and industry practices (CEMA, ISO, DIN);
• Knowledge of belt conveyor design software; Sidewinder and Newton;
• Experience reading drawings, PFDs (process flow diagrams) and P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams).
