This position supports the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects or evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a medium set of moderately difficult assignments Job responsibilities: • Apply Cost Competitive Execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of the discipline engineering work • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of moderate or complex engineering problems. Should be able to demonstrate basic understanding of structural behavior and design principles. • Review vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines • Indicate strong technical interests and background with structural engineering subjects such as design of large structural steel and concrete structures including heavy foundations, seismic engineering, and dynamic analysis of structures supporting vibrating equipment. • Capable to undertake structural engineering work related to resource project development and construction, in one or more of the following areas: • Performing hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures • Analyzing complex structures , • Wind and seismic loading in structural calculations (structural) • Dynamic analysis and design (structural) • Computer modeling and analysis (structural) • Procurement and construction aspects of engineering • Vendor drawing review, intergroup review – squad checking • Engineering and fabricator drawing checking • Managing and leading a small project• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and four (4) years of work-related relevant experience . • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner • Minimum 3 days of work in office.• Professional registration with Engineers and Geoscientists, BC • Prior experience in mining/heavy Industry • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials • Relevant practical field experience • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs Additional Information: Compressed work schedule: The Fluor Vancouver offices work a compressed work schedule offering every second Friday off.
