What are the responsibilities and job description for the DevOps Engineer position at Flying Bark Productions?
Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
DevOps Engineers are essential within the software development process, they’re responsible for connecting the development and operations teams to accelerate release cycles and provide a smooth operational infrastructure.
About the role:
- Design and implement tools to enhance collaboration and streamline backend/developer workflows.
- Help automate infrastructure provisioning and management using DevOps best practices.
- Work closely with IT / Systems Engineering and Pipeline teams to integrate DevOps best practices.
- Keep constant communication between IT, Systems Engineering and Pipeline team to facilitate solutions
- Identify and address backend bottlenecks that impact productivity and efficiency of IT / Systems Engineering and Pipeline teams.
- Develop and maintain tools and practices to help troubleshoot, diagnose and visualise application, system and network problems.
- Develop and maintain tools and practices to help automate repetitive tasks.
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines within the studio.
- Optimise and automate continuous integration and deployment workflows.
- Implement automation solutions to support continuous delivery.
- Set up and maintain proactive monitoring logging and alerting systems, ensuring high uptime and troubleshooting production issues as they arise.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks through stress testing and best practices.
- Participate in incident response and provide support as required to ensure system availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to deployment and infrastructure.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for deployment, monitoring, and automation processes.
About you:
- Experience as a DevOps engineer or in a similar software engineering role
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Understanding of file server management and cloud provider storage services, with regards to data transfer, performance and synchronisation.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Salt) to define and manage both local and cloud infrastructure.
- Good knowledge of Python / Bash and other scripting languages
- Solid understanding of Windows/Linux systems administration.
- Solid understanding of networking and cybersecurity fundamentals.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Ability to learn quickly and comprehend custom in-house production tools;
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work successfully in a fast paced environment;
- Ability to communicate technical issues to the Production team in a clear manner;
- Must work well in a team, with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Animated Feature Films, TV Series and VFX production experience
- Experience with Autodesk Shotgrid and Autodesk Shotgrid Toolkit
- Experience with Autodesk Maya
- Experience with Side FX Houdini
- Experience with The Foundry Katana
- Experience with The Foundry Nuke
- Experience with Toom Boom Harmony
- Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, is a plus.
