What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranch Manager position at Flying Iron Ranch?
Ranch Manager wanted for a Southwest Colorado alpaca farm specializing in high quality breeding and fiber alpacas. Flying Iron Ranch is looking for an experienced, hard-working, and motivated individual to manage ranch activities with 24/7 responsibility. The Ranch is home to a growing alpaca herd that sits on 35 acres. The ranch owners are building a multifaceted business that offers an exciting opportunity for someone who is a self-starter with a strong work ethic and wants to help achieve business goals in a demanding environment.
Experience with alpacas preferred, experience with livestock operations is essential with the willingness to become educated and proficient in the care of alpacas. Alpacas are unique and we are willing to train the right person with the right attitude and problem solving skills.
Duties include:
Daily care of alpacas, including herd health management and maintenance and meticulous record keeping. Herd health management includes routine medical care, breeding, birthing and intensive care if needed.
Management of livestock guardian dogs.
Equipment operation, maintenance, and service. (45hp tractor with multiple implements, backhoe and skid steer)
Property management – maintain roads including snow removal operations lawns and landscape and fence/pasture management including irrigation.
Applicants must possess the ability to transport and care for alpacas during transport. Trailering to Southern, Midwestern and Western states in a 20’ gooseneck trailer as the show schedule requires.
Marketing and business development skills are essential to the success of our operation. 900sq ft, one bedroom residence package and salary commensurate with level of experience offered.
Unfortunately, living quarters will not accommodate children.
