Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled HVAC professional to join the team as a BMS Controls Engineer at a prestigious research and academic facility in San Francisco. While previous experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) is not required, the ideal candidate will have a strong HVAC engineering background and a keen willingness to learn and understand BMS controls. The candidate must possess the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and understand complex HVAC systems, such as VAV systems, chillers, and chilled water systems. This position is ideal for someone eager to expand their knowledge into the world of BMS while contributing their existing HVAC expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, ensuring all systems are functioning optimally.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to HVAC components, including VAV systems, chillers, and chilled water loops.
- Utilize BMS systems to monitor, control, and optimize energy use across building operations (training will be provided for BMS-specific tasks).
- Collaborate with the maintenance and engineering team to resolve operational challenges and implement improvements.
- Respond promptly to system failures, performing repairs and adjustments as needed to minimize downtime.
- Assist with system upgrades and retrofits, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies.
- Document maintenance activities, system adjustments, and troubleshooting efforts for record-keeping and compliance.
- Ensure systems meet health and safety codes, energy efficiency requirements, and other relevant standards.
Qualifications:
- Strong HVAC engineering background with a deep understanding of HVAC systems, including chillers, VAV systems, and chilled water systems.
- A strong desire and willingness to learn BMS systems and controls, with the ability to quickly grasp how these systems interact with HVAC systems.
- Hands-on experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and maintaining HVAC systems, even if prior experience with BMS systems is limited.
- Ability to learn and adapt to the use of BMS automation tools and monitoring platforms.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks effectively.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to providing quality service.
- Must be able to read and interpret HVAC system schematics and engineering drawings.
- Certification as a Stationary Engineer or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to work in a unionized environment (Local 39).
