Due to our strong business growth, our team of patent agents continues to expand. FMC seeks an experienced patent agent qualified to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a patent portfolio which protects an assigned portion of FMC’s Discovery and Development R&D.
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
- Develop and update IP strategy to stay aligned with business strategy.
- Conduct periodic patent portfolio reviews to maintain alignment with business and strategic direction.
- Support IP attorneys, including analysis of third- party patents.
- Manage legal costs and resources.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or related field.
Qualifications:
- 5 years or more R&D experience
- 5 years in a patent agent role
- Ability to travel to Philadelphia at least 1 day per month
- Qualified to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Takes initiative and works independently, while coordinating with colleagues and internal clients
- Demonstrated ability to manage executive level confidential situations
- Ability to prioritize work independently and exercise sound judgement
- Ability to share his/her knowledge with others, while maintaining strict levels of confidentiality
- Anticipates needs, takes initiative, and has perseverance
- Highly organized, detail oriented and able to follow through on assignments
- Must be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities
- Ability to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with businesspersons and other departments to advance organizational goals
- Ability to be a proactive, self-starter, who understands the details within a much larger context
