Job Summary:
Responsible for managing patient referrals by coordinating with insurance companies to verify eligibility, obtaining necessary authorizations for specialty care, schedule appointment with appropriate providers, and ensure smooth transition of patient care between different healthcare settings, all while maintaining accurate documentation and communication effectively with patients, referring physician and other healthcare staff.
Job Responsibilities:
- Patient intake – receiving patient referrals, gathering relevant medical history and insurance information
- Insurance verification – checking patient eligibility and benefits un their insurance plan
- Authorization processing – obtaining prior authorizations from insurance companies for requested procedures to specialist visits
- Appointment scheduling – coordinating appointments with appropriate specialists based on referral needs
- Communication with providers – contacting referring physicians to discuss patient needs and update them on referral status
- Patient education – explaining referral process, insurance requirements, and next steps to patients
