FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your Role: FMI is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern. This role may work on a variety of projects, applying their engineering, test & quality related education to real world experiences. In addition to targeted projects & deliverables, the intern will have an opportunity to gain knowledge in various Quality Management, Program Quality, Quality Control & Testing/Inspection functions.

Job Responsibilities
- Extraction of customer requirements to establish quality testing protocols
- Review of applicable standards in support of establishing Manufacturing Quality Plans
- Development of robust material storage management & control program
- Assisting in the initiation & publication of Engineering Change Orders
- Implementation of automated inspection processes across multiple parts/shifts
- Report out to senior leadership on progress & outcomes of assigned projects to validate learning opportunities & internship experience
- Currently enrolled in an engineering (mechanical, materials, aerospace) or similar degree program
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite, Excel is a must
- Strong work ethic
- Attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in a team environment
- Ability to manage time effectively while working multiple projects simultaneously
- Works well individually and as a member of a team
- Aptitude for learning new platforms or technologies
- Working knowledge of computer inspection techniques & programming (i.e. CMM) used for manufacturing
