GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Highly skilled technical work in a 300 MW combined cycle power generation facility including the maintenance and repair of power plant equipment. Installs, calibrates, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, tunes, and repairs complex electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-hydraulic equipment, recorders, generator load control equipment, distributive and programmable logic controls, pressure, flow, level, temperature, position and analysis controllers, indicators, transmitters, distributive and programmable logic controls, final control elements (including drives and valves) and continuous emissions monitoring equipment.

Installs, tests, and repairs electrical / electronic apparatus such as AC / DC motors, circuits, transformers, alternators, generators, low, medium and high voltage switchgear (including air, oil, and gas powered circuit breakers, disconnects, and switches); alarm systems, solid-state and electro-mechanical control systems, heat recovery steam generator controls, burner management systems, combustion turbine controls, steam turbine controls, generator and excitation controls, and balance of plant control systems. Reports to the Lead I / C Specialist.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

NOTE : There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform.)

Inspects equipment to determine the need for preventive maintenance and makes repairs routinely.

Install switches, receptacles, indicators, alarms, process indication and control devices, motors, lighting, conduit and wiring, and instrument tubing according to prints and specifications routinely.

Comply with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) reliability standards requirements, and all FPUA reliability standards.

Conduct performance tests on complex power generation equipment, records and graphs results. Troubleshoots and determines causes for systems malfunctions.

Maintain a functional knowledge of the operation of the controls system software and hardware.

Requires close cooperation and coordination with plant operating personnel on new installations and troubleshooting existing equipment.

Must obtain a certificate for CPR and first-aid training; updated at two (2) year intervals.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. AS in electrical engineering technology or International Society of Automation (ISA) Certificate preferred. Two (2) to five (5) years experience in electronic process control, instrument calibration, maintaining and repairing electrical circuits, equipment and instruments including AC and DC motor control circuits, circuit breakers and related electronic apparatus in a Power Plant environment.

A comparable amount of training and experience or military education may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

A valid State of Florida Driver's License is desired.

Ability to order and manage shop inventory for repair / replacement parts

Ability to create spreadsheets for calibration and repair / testing reports.

Ability to plan or assist in job planning, scheduling, layout, and preparation.

Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, and overhead cranes.

Ability to create and implement databases for calibration, system performance monitoring / optimization, and repair / testing reports.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Considerable knowledge and understanding of electronic controls and circuits.

Considerable knowledge of network and device communications including Ethernet and Hart protocols.

Considerable knowledge of process control software (GE Mark Vie and Cimplicity, HMI, DCS and PLC).

Considerable knowledge of electrical protective systems (including metering and relaying).

Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, testing equipment, tools and equipment used in electrical and instrumentation repair and maintenance work.

General knowledge of office software such as Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo.

General understanding of mathematics, algebra, physics, and mechanics, AC and DC theory.

General knowledge and compliance with lockout / tagout procedures.

Proficiency in reading, designing and interpreting ladder logic, Boolean logic, Block logic, SAMA, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, electrical one-line, elementary, and schematic diagrams.

May be required to work as an Operator / Mechanic during normal plant operations and during unit(s) start-up and shutdown.

May be required to supervise temporary technicians during new projects and outages.

May be required to assist application engineers and electrical contractors during plant expansions / new projects and outages.

Will require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-out work during non-working hours or emergencies.

Must be able to perform work as a team member in a team environment.

May be required to assist the Operations personnel.

Will be required to enter confined space which, in turn, would require respirator fit testing, appropriate training for confined space entry, respirators, and air breathing apparatus.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Will be required to undergo respirator fit testing, spirometry (pulmonary function) testing and evaluation, appropriate training in using applicable respirator(s) safely and properly, identified by occupation, subject to National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (NIOSH), OSHA 1910.134 and industry standards.
