What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Peer Coach (PRSS - Mobile Crisis Team) position at FMRS Health Systems, Inc?
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist-Mobile Crisis Team assists with the provision of Peer Recovery services for individuals in services with the Mobile Crisis Team or other crisis locations. Provides peer counseling, support, and mentoring to individuals with initial episode of psychosis or other severe mental illness (SMI). The Peer Recovery Specialist serves as an advocate and assists in maximizing individual choice and decision making in the recovery process. This member of the Mobile Crisis Team has experience as a recipient of mental health and or substance use services and has experienced stable, sustained recovery. The Peer Recovery Specialist is willing to use and share his or her personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit the team and individuals served. The Peer Recovery Specialist will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills. The Peer Recovery Specialist functions as a fully integrated team member to provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by individuals to have a satisfying life. Collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each individual's point of view, experiences, and preferences. Responsible to maximize individual choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of individuals, families, and team staff; acts as a liaison with community resources; carries out rehabilitation and support functions; and assists in treatment, education, support, and consultation to families, and crisis intervention under clinical supervision. Although this position is primarily designated for the adult population, the PRSS - Mobile Crisis Team will be cross trained to respond to both adult and child crisis calls.
Duties and responsibilities include:
1. Responds within the community to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crises, utilizes crisis de-escalation techniques in order to maintain people in their homes and communities as appropriate.
2. Serve as a personal guide and mentor for individuals with mental health and/or substance use difficulties.
3. Share and discuss common experiences; answer questions and provide referrals for the services/supports necessary to promote mental health for individuals served.
4. Help individuals discover, access, and utilize ways to maintain mental health or reduce the harm associated with behaviors negatively affecting their mental health.
5. Link and refer individuals to resources for treatment, family support, education, housing and local or online support groups.
6. May facilitate supportive groups to support improved health outcomes.
7. Complete assessments and track progress to maintain client engagement in treatment.
8. Maintains schedule of activities in Carelogic, monitors alerts in Carelogic (failed activities, activities not statused, etc.) and resolves issues daily.
9. Collaborate with hospital emergency room staff and FMRS crisis workers to directly engage high risk, high need clients and families in order to identify early signs of treatment non-compliance or at-risk behaviors which could result in a probable cause hearing. The goal is to avoid the probable cause hearing.
10. Provide timely coordination with local providers, including hospital ERs, DHHR protective service workers, mental hygiene commissioners, magistrates, law enforcement, crisis stabilization units, and other non-hospital diversion resources.
11. Assist in increasing utilization of alternatives to commitment by assessing the feasibility of Voluntary Treatment Agreements, use of crisis units, and the provision of crisis intervention services.
12. Participate in team meetings. Work closely with other members of the IDT, especially care coordinators, certifiers and other clinical staff.
13. Maintain frequent contact during the episode of care with high-risk clients by closely monitoring medication compliance and treatment compliance in the community and homes, especially for those clients with a high rate of recidivism through at-risk tracking and/or other tracking methods.
14. Provides clients with linkage to ongoing education regarding substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tobacco, nutrition and exercise and other health and wellness information.
15. Represent FMRS in a positive manner including maintaining a positive attitude and performing duties in a manner in accordance with FMRS’ Mission and Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards.
16. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
17. Actively participates in supervision with supervisor.
Qualifications:
Formal Education, Certification/Licensure, & Other Requirements
1. Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Current certification as a Peer Recovery Coach in the State of West Virginia by the Certification Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals or ability to become certified within one (1) year from the date of hire.
3. Minimum two (2) years demonstrated personal recovery experience.
4. Preferred experience with substance use disorders, homelessness, mental illness, and domestic violence.
5. Valid WV Driver’s License in good standing.
6. Must be able to pass all required background checks.
