Job Summary:
We are seeking a Volunteer Corporate Lawyer with the potential to transition into a permanent role after a 3 to 6-month commitment. You will play a key role in guiding FOCUS through this rapid growth phase, providing expert legal support to ensure compliance, manage risk, and support our nonprofit goals. This is a unique opportunity to apply your legal expertise in a vibrant, fast-paced environment dedicated to creating positive change.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice on corporate matters, including nonprofit governance, contracts, compliance, and risk management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents to help FOCUS achieve its mission.
- Assist in developing and implementing corporate policies that align with nonprofit regulations and best practices.
- Conduct legal research to keep FOCUS informed of relevant regulations affecting nonprofit organizations.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop legal strategies that support our mission and manage growth effectively.
- Serve as a liaison with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies as needed.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in Maryland.
- Experience in corporate law, with nonprofit sector experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of corporate and nonprofit law, including compliance, contracts, and risk management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
