Medical Clinical Specialist 3 (Emergency Preparedness/Virology)
Location: Decatur, GA
Employment Type: Full-time, contract. Contract is currently expected to last six months.
Salary: $27.34 per hour
About the Role:
Medical Clinical Specialist needed to join our customer’s Division of Clinical Microbiology, supporting Emergency Preparedness, Virology, and Respiratory Disease testing. This role involves performing complex laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting outbreak investigations, including COVID-19 and influenza surveillance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct molecular diagnostic testing to detect and identify biological agents in clinical and environmental samples.
- Support emergency response, pandemic preparedness, and routine disease surveillance.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Perform quality control, assurance, and troubleshooting for laboratory instrumentation.
- Interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Train new staff and contribute to laboratory process improvements.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, adhering to biosafety and chemical hygiene protocols.
- Handle and ship Category B infectious substances according to regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in a related science and two years of clinical lab experience with MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
- OR Master’s degree in a related field and one year of clinical lab experience with MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
- Valid MLS or MT certification required
- You must meet personnel requirements (42 CFR 493.1461) and responsibilities (for Technologist (42 CFR 493.1495) performing high complexity testing as defined by 42 CFR 493, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA)
Experience & Skills:
- Knowledge of FDA-cleared and laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) for infectious disease detection.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of clinical lab regulatory requirements and quality assurance programs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with professionalism and integrity.
