Responsibilities:
As a Special Education Teacher, your role will include, but is not limited to:
Academic Achievement and Character Development:Professional Growth and Development:
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment.
- Motivate students to reach high academic and behavioral standards.
- Engage students and families in the development of academic success and the School's Core Values.
- Utilize data to drive instruction and intervention strategies.
- Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with grade/subject teams.
- Hold all students accountable during transitions, trips, and school events.
- Lead daily student CREW sessions to help students build positive relationships with peers and adults, aligning with the school-wide Crew curriculum and Habits of Scholarship.
- Provide differentiated instruction to ensure that all students demonstrate 1.5 years of growth as measured by NWEA’s MAP assessment to close the achievement gap.
- Serve as the “owner” of all special education-related services, including writing and implementing rigorous, standards-driven Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), managing legal documents related to IEPs and 504 plans, liaising with external service providers, ensuring compliance with mandates, and coordinating the annual IEP review process.
- Participate in evaluations using the Teaching Excellence Framework.
- Collaborate with instructional coaches, grade-level chairs, and school teams to continuously improve instructional practices, culture-building efforts, and leadership skills.
- Participate enthusiastically in all professional development sessions, team planning meetings, and data analysis discussions.
- Act as a school-wide partner in raising student achievement and character for all students by reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering for additional activities to enhance school culture.
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
- High level of personal organization and planning.
- Team player with maturity, humility, grit, flexibility, follow-through, a sense of humor, openness to feedback, and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude.
- Strong belief in the School's mission and educational model.
- Mastery of subject matter with enthusiasm for teaching.
- Two years of teaching experience highly preferred with a proven record of high achievement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Eligible for certification within the State of Delaware.
