COMPENSATION RATE: $50 to $55 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
The art teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in, and the ability for, creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited College or University
- Must meet Highly Qualified credentials by one of the following:
- Colorado Teacher’s Certification
- Holds degree matching assignment
- Having obtained 36 semester hours in specific teaching area
- Bilingual in English/Spanish desired
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of art history and different art genres in order to teach a range of art styles
- Knowledge of ceramics equipment and processes
- Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process
- Ability to communicate concrete and abstract concepts to students
- Ability to spot and cultivate creativity
- Ability to create and maintain a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to learning
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Support the mission and vision of the school
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, ceramics, painting, lettering, and art history
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and art appreciation
- Foster an ability to make qualitative judgments about art
- Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Assist in finishing and firing children’s clay projects using high fire gas kiln.
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
- Collaborate with additional art teachers to plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art club
- Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion and second language acquisition, such as sheltered instruction, and cooperative learning.
- Establish and implement, in a positive and supportive manner, classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provide guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; make referrals for assistance where appropriate.
