Position : Off-Campus SPED Teacher

Commitment : Part-time, up to 25 hours per week

Compensation rate : $70 per hour

Focused Staffing Group is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Special Education Teacher to work with two boys with visual impairments in their home environment.

The SPED teacher will provide individualized instruction, behavior and emotional support, and life skills training to meet the unique needs of each student, aged 19. The role requires a deep understanding of autism, visual impairments, and cognitive delays and the ability to develop and implement tailored educational plans that foster growth, independence, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Individualized Instruction : Design and deliver specialized lesson plans based on the specific needs of each student, utilizing a multi-sensory approach. Adapt activities for both auditory and tactile learning, ensuring that each student is engaged and able to access the curriculum.
  • Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) : Address the ECC through designed learning experiences. Work individually and with other providers to ensure all relevant areas are being addressed and progress and participation are being documented.
  • Assistive Technology : Incorporate assistive technologies, such as tactile materials, braille, and audio-based tools, to support learning and communication for both students and be willing to work with a Teacher of the Visually impaired (TVI).
  • Communication Development : Support the students in developing alternative communication methods (e.g., braille, etc.), while fostering social and emotional development and working with an SLP on their communication goals and implementation.
  • Life Skills Training (including vocational skills) : Assist with the development of daily living skills (e.g., dressing, hygiene, feeding), focusing on independence and self-sufficiency, with an emphasis on the expanded core curriculum and vocational skills / job readiness.
  • Collaboration with Family and Specialists : Work closely with parents / guardians to create, monitor, and adjust Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as needed. Coordinate with other professionals, such as the teacher of the visually impaired, orientation and mobility specialist, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and behavior technicians, to ensure a comprehensive support system.
  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting : Regularly track the student's academic, behavioral, and social progress. Provide detailed reports to parents and other relevant professionals, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to meet evolving needs. Progress reports are completed quarterly.
  • Behavioral Support : Use evidence-based strategies and techniques to address challenging behaviors, teach new skills, and reinforce positive behavior with the support of a behavior technician and BCBA.
  • Emotional and Social Support : Provide nurturing and emotional support to the students, helping them to develop self-regulation skills and build confidence in a safe and loving environment.

Qualifications :

  • Massachusetts Special Education Teaching Certificate (required)
  • Must have experience working with children with autism, cognitive delays, and visual impairments (required)
  • Must be willing to drive / commute to the students' house for 25 hours per week (required)
