Job Summary:
The Special Education Aide plays a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs in a classroom setting. Duties
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing curriculum and instructional strategies tailored for students with special needs.
- Provide support to students with autism and other disabilities, ensuring they can participate fully in classroom activities.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to foster a collaborative learning environment.
- Help manage classroom behavior and provide guidance to students during lessons and activities.
- Support the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) by collecting data on student progress.
- Engage in toddler care when necessary, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for younger learners.
- Participate in curriculum development efforts that accommodate various learning styles and needs.
- Assist students with math and other subjects, providing one-on-one or small group instruction as needed.
Experience
Candidates should possess experience or training in special education, childcare, or related fields. Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with students, educators, and families. A background in classroom management or educational support roles will be beneficial for success in this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Pass background check
- Complete Sexual Misconduct / Abuse Disclosure
- Complete a Mantoux TB test (tuberculous test)
- New Jersey Praxis Exam or New Jersey Substitute Credential is an advantage but not a requirement
- Ability to comply with written and/or oral instructions
- Prior related experience working with children
- Proficiency in maintaining classroom management and emotional control
