Job Summary
The Culinary Garden Assistant will perform tasks and assist in the management of the daily operations of the Culinary Garden. Gardening responsibilities include harvesting vegetables, watering and weeding. You should know how to use and maintain landscaping equipment and fertilizers, while following health and safety regulations. Ultimately, you will make sure our gardens and green spaces are always healthy and beautiful. Under supervision, responsible for the culinary garden. Will help to maintain the health and aesthetics of perennial, vegetable and herb gardens. Tasks include: pruning, deadheading, dividing, weeding, mulching, composting, raking, watering and planting. Physical fitness is essential for this role. You must be able to stand, squat, carry and lift up to 50 pounds. The hours for this position are M-F 7:30am – 4:00pm.
\n- Maintaining vegetables and fruit as well as other green spaces
- Harvesting vegetables
- Install and maintain seasonal plants
- Mulch and weed gardens
- Maintain all gardening equipment
- Monitor and maintain the health of plants
- Deal with pest problems that could damage plants
- Shovel, move and apply mulch and compost
- Install new plants and bulbs
- Remove diseased plants if necessary
- Remove insects, manually
- Clear away leaves and other debris from garden beds
- Water as necessary
- Basic gardening skills
- Knowledge of local pests and how to eliminate them
- Knowledge of state health and safety regulations for landscaping
- The ability to lift heavy objects
- The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time
- A love of the outdoors and plant life
- A high school degree or GED
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
