Job Description :

The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is seeking a Budget Analyst, to join its Finance team. Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, this individual will work closely with program managers, department heads, and senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting and monitoring budget to actuals. Additionally, they will be responsible for training staff on our financial systems.

This standard schedule for this role is Monday-Friday, 8 : 45am-4 : 45pm, which is a 35-hour workweek with an hour unpaid lunch daily. This position is a fully onsite role. Candidates must live local to the DC metropolitan area

Compensation

  • This is a monthly-paid salary position, with a pay range of $60,000-70,000

Duties :

Budget Development, Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Working closely with the Director of Finance and CFO, the Budget Analyst plays a lead role in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts.
  • Prepares departmental monthly financial reports, distributes to departments and follows up with questions and support.
  • Coordinates and leads staff financial training sessions on budgeting and accounting, including training on accounting software, and financial policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes expenses and revenues for trends, variances, financial accuracy and alignment with budget.
  • Works with Director of Finance and CFO on financial analyses and special research projects, including development of multi-year projections.
  • Collaborates with finance team members on the preparation of financial forecasts and projections.
  • Other financial duties

  • Completes new supplier set ups in accounting system and ensures accurate documentation and support.
  • Monitors existing supplier setup records to ensure compliance with internal controls and accuracy of information, and completeness of supporting documentation.
  • Supports Director of Finance in preparing contracts for vendors and independent contractors.
  • Monitors merchant account transaction fees and service charges, collaborating with Staff Accountant, Revenue to identify opportunities to optimize processing costs.
  • Monitors and analyzes COGS for the retail shop, collaborating with Staff Accountant, AP to track inventory and profitability.
  • Supports Director of Finance in preparation of tax filings and audits, including schedules and other supporting documentation.
  • Collaborates with the Staff Accountants to prepare financial reports for federal and non-federal grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance with grant agreements.
  • Adheres to accounting principles, internal controls, and organizational policies.
  • Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborates and communicates with Amherst partners and Folger staff on organizational expenses and financial transactions;
  • Upholds a culture of customer service by supporting staff across the organization through training and problem-solving on financial matters, thereby improving financial accuracy and literacy.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and assists in implementing changes to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in management, accounting, finance or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in financial analysis, budgeting and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with all aspects of budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong preference for candidates experienced with accounting in non-profit organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and demonstrated advanced experience of Microsoft Excel functions and formulas.
  • Experience with enterprise accounting software. Experience with Workday a plus.
  • Proven experience meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities.
  • Knowledge and Skills :

  • Strong mathematical, accounting and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance staff in writing and verbally
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to multitask and to work in an organized, detailed manner with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards and practices.
  • Working Conditions / Physical Requirements :

    This job operates in a professional office environment. The employee may be exposed to various components of an office environment, such as fluorescent lighting, pollen, dust, recycled air, cooling fans, semi-enclosed areas, central heating, seasonal warmer temperatures, and office noise.   • Normal work week is Monday-Friday, 8 : 45am-4 : 45pm. Ability to work varying and additional hours as project demands arise (including evenings and weekends) as necessary.
  • Generally, normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to work at a computer for an extended period of time, with accuracy.
  • Willingness and capacity to work in an office environment at a workstation, and to come and go repeatedly throughout the day as is necessary, to perform various responsibilities.
  • Capacity to communicate, in person, or using video, phone, or electronic communication methods, in a manner which can be understood by others.
  • Ability to travel from office to bank occasionally to make deposits or mail outgoing payments.
