Follett is searching for a Principal Engineer to join our team in the Lehigh Valley area!
Job Summary:
Lead the development of new technologies and their application into new product designs and sustaining product improvements within the Ice Maker Subsystem. Evaluates and recommends technology direction and designs/directs the development of concepts to meet customer and business requirements. Leads and or supports cross-functional product development and product improvement projects in line with business objectives.
Essential Functions:
The Principal Engineer for the Ice Maker Subsystem is responsible for the components, application and control variables, inputs/outputs, function, and error states of the subsystem which include:
o Evaporator
o Auger
o Ice Extrusion Nozzle
o Gear motor
o Water and Refrigerant side components
· Develops product design concepts and functional capabilities for products by determining market/customer requirements and business intent.
· Ensures product reliability requirements by defining and completing qualifications tests and analysis.
· Establishes product performance standards by completing engineering analysis and technical feasibility investigations.
· Maintains technical knowledge and expertise in emerging technologies and competitive trends.
· Directs the completion of models, layouts, and details for product assemblies and components by communicating Subsystem concepts and performance criteria.
· Ensures complete and accurate product release documentation by reviewing the design files, drawings, component specifications, item descriptions, and BOMs.
· Ensures product adherence to regulatory agencies by maintaining knowledge of requirements and providing directions on requirements, standards, forms, etc.
· Leads problem resolution efforts by using root-cause analysis of field or manufacturing-related product problems; develop and implement appropriate solutions.
· Supports innovation in the strategic product planning process by developing, owning, and budgeting for the technology roadmap for the Ice Maker Subsystem.
· Completes engineering projects by establishing objectives and plans; determining project responsibilities; reviewing options, proposals, and alternatives; and providing technical consultation and leadership.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required, advanced degree preferred.
· Experience of 15 years in appliance, Commercial Durable, or related new product development of mechanical systems.
· Competency in design for complex machining and casting.
· Experience in machine design, load evaluation and material stress management.
· Applied design of experiment.
· Hands-on CAD expertise toward idea generation and explanation.
· Experience driving decisions within a cross functional product development team.
· Successful deliverables within New Technology Development and New Product Development initiatives.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
· Ability to work in office, lab, and shop floor environment (temperature controlled/non-temperature controlled)
· Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
· Lifting/moving objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
· Regular use of hands and fingers to type on keyboard, operate computer mouse, use of telephone and various office equipment.
· Extended periods of viewing computer monitor.
· Noise level in work environment: low to moderate.
Travel Requirements:
· Travel within US (10%) as needed to conduct site visits with suppliers, customers, industry meetings and training programs.
