What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Highway Worker position at Fond du Lac County, WI?
Job Duties:
- Performs general laborer duties including cleaning vehicles, equipment, building and grounds, picking up trash within highway right of ways and mowing or weed trimming of landscape.
- Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled highway maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance and replacement of County infrastructure.
- Operates County owned equipment and vehicles.
- Operates powered equipment such as mowers, blowers, weed whackers, pavement routers, crack fill machines and other equipment as needed.
- Assists with setting up traffic control and barricades, flags and directs public and live traffic for traffic control on various highways within work zones.
- Performs manual labor in shoveling, landscaping, raking, brushing, tree removal and other activities as directed.
- Completes and submits accurate time and labor records, equipment use and charges to assigned projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- The ability to work primarily outside in various degrees of temperature and weather and inclement weather conditions.
- The ability to work within close proximity to heavy equipment, trucks, active highway traffic and other equipment.
- Working with a variety of highway maintenance products including hot asphalt rubber sealants, asphalt pavement, gravel and other sealants.
- Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period of time.
- Subject to fumes or disagreeable odors.
- Involved prolonged and frequent walking, standing, climbing, pushing, pulling lifting, carrying, shoveling, and other forms of manual labor is required.
- Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid, and/or cold conditions within high vehicle traffic areas.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a frequent basis.
- Frequent contact with the public; must be able to effectively communicate verbally and demonstrate good customer relations.
- Subject to frequently changing walking surfaces and varying topography.
