Wage Range: $77,589.34 - $87,288.01

  • Responsibilities: · Direct and supervise all agricultural division efforts.
    · Oversee, update, and execute Agricultural Division Strategic Plan.
    · Administer all agricultural related program funds, including authorization of disbursements, budgeting and reporting on program activities as required by funding agencies, the Administration and Reservation Business Committee.
    · Will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Agricultural Division policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, recommendations, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance and employee discipline, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    · Coordinates with the division staff and connects them with other community contacts as necessary to provide technical assistance opportunities for the producers and community members.
    · Manages and writes grants to sustain the Agricultural department’s efforts of the Fond du Lac
    Band.
    · Responsible for the coordination of all new agricultural program development efforts of Fond du Lac Reservation, Divisions and Programs.
    · Oversee the Fond du Lac Food Sovereignty Initiative, including regular meetings
    · Maintain all policies and regulations governing the professional functioning of the staff within the Agricultural Division.
    · Determine and develop long range agricultural issues for policies and development alternatives.
    · Analyze and prepare annual department budgets.
    · Evaluate performance of staff on an annual basis
    · Work will be guided by the Reservation Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Plan, Local Foods Strategic Plan and Community Economic Development Strategies (CEDS) Plan.
    · Support farmers/producers.
    · Work with staff to build relationships and develop a presence in the community.
    · Attend weekly meetings to discuss ways of integrating agricultural programs and increasing the audience and participation.
    · Guide agricultural related data collection and evaluation.
    · Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
    · Analyzes market conditions to determine acreage allocations.
    · Explores types of business models of production farming.
    · Records information, such as production, farm management practices, and parent stock, and prepares financial and operational reports.
    · Travels to multiple work locations during the workday.
    · May be requested to work after hours or weekends.
    · Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for farm facilities and equipment.
    · Provide equipment safety training, including securing trailers and their loads.
    · Update and utilize the Agricultural Strategic Plan.
    · Develop and enforce food safety codes.
    · Create and maintain regulations for Hemp cultivation.
    · Appropriate work attire is required.
    · Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
    · Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients
    · Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
    · Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
    · Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
    · Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
    · Maintains a clean and organized work area.
    · Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

  • Qualifications: · A Valid US Driver’s License required.
    · Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, Biology, or closely related field; or 10 years’ experience working on a Farm in an agricultural setting or a combination of education and experience is required.
    · Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers is required.
    · Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, databases and/or data entry, spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook is required.
    · Demonstrated experience in making connections with diverse communities, including a wide range of organizations, tribal leaders, and tribal members is required.
    · Working knowledge of traditional agricultural and/or gardening practices is required.
    · Ability to operate heavy farm equipment such as tractors is required.
    · Experience in Indigenous food sovereignty is desired.
    · Knowledge in seed keeping and building a seed keeping network is desired.
    · Experience with program planning, implementation, and evaluation is preferred.
    · Experience in natural resources and agricultural related activities, health and nutrition, and/or local food production is preferred.
    · Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
    · Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
    · Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
    · Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
    · Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
    · Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
    · Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
    · Travel is required

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    · Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.
    · Subject to inside and outside environmental working conditions.
