What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Nutrition Educator position at Fond du Lac Reservation?
- Responsibilities: · Develop and implement the Fond du Lac Nutrition Education Workplan, following recommendations from the USDA.
· Prepare, revise, and administer the grant work plan. Regularly evaluate and address program objectives, reporting, budgeting, and updating.
· Create and implement nutrition education programs and workshops for various community groups, such as children, families, seniors, and individuals following an approved curriculum.
· Establish goals with participants for learning outcomes and manage the lesson planning to achieve those outcomes.
· Record, submit and save program activities into a database in accordance with the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP Ed.) regulations.
· Work closely with the Grant Manager and CHS Coordinator to ensure the reports and budget are correct.
· Collaborate with other Health and Human Services Departments and other FDL Divisions to ensure success and networking of programs.
· Complete statistical and narrative reports for the Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee and grantors.
· Assist in the development of culturally appropriate and relevant educational materials.
· Organize and maintain a current log of all program participants.
· Perform participant evaluations on an on-going basis and maintain data for reporting purposes.
· Provide families with resources particularly in learning and using good shopping behaviors and household money management.
· Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness planning, exercising, responding, recovery, and post incident evaluation.
· Assist in the development and implementation of the Public Health Accreditation efforts.
· Participate with the Community Health Services Continuous Quality improvement activities.
· Appropriate/Professional work attire is required.
· Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
· Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees, band members and/or clients.
· Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
· Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
· Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
· Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
· Maintains a clean and organized work area.
· Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
- Qualifications: · Valid U.S. Class D Driver’s license is required.
· Bachelor’s degree in public health education, community health education, or related field is
required.
· Two years’ public health related experience in Community Health or other chronic health disease education is preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to present ideas accurately, effectively, and concisely, both orally and in writing is required.
· Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and implement a community health education program is required.
· Skills in communications and alternative methods of teaching with general public, elders, youth, co-workers, and professional health and social service personnel are required.
· Knowledge of effective methods and techniques of disseminating health education information to the community is required.
· Demonstrated ability to work with community organizations and a team of health providers in the development and implementation of health program is required.
· Knowledge of available resources in health and social services is required.
· Must be CPR certified; if not currently certified, must become CPR certified within 6 months of hire is required and must maintain CPR certification for duration of employment.
· Nutrition certification is required; if not certified at the time of hire, employees must become certified with 90 days of hire and must maintain certification for duration of employment.
· Food Safety Certification is required; if not certified at the time of hire, employees must become certified with 90 days of hire, and must maintain certification for duration of employment.
· Experience in planning, developing, and implementing nutrition educational sessions is required.
· Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
· Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
· Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
· Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
· Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
· Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
· Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
· Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
· Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
· Travel is required.
