Fontbonne University, a Catholic coeducational institution, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, offering both bachelor's and master's degrees, seeks qualified individuals for a full time Assistant Athletic Trainer. Fontbonne is a member of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division III and the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a ten-month position beginning August 1st, 2023. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Fontbonne sponsored sports. This includes injury prevention, evaluations, management, treatment, and rehabilitation. This position supervises work study students, interns, and serves as a preceptor for Saint Louis University ATP students. Special emphasis will be on creating and maintaining an atmosphere of student welfare and a high standard of quality of care, documentation of medical records through the NCAA Impact Program, working with team physicians and the oversight of all insurance and concussion related needs as they pertain to risk management and Fontbonne University. Sport assignments will be determined from experience, but sport assignments are (1): men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s wrestling, softball, and esports and (1): women’s volleyball, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, cross country and track and field.
Expectations and Responsibilities
- Supervises the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of all injuries to Fontbonne University student-athletes.
- Works directly under Fontbonne’s team physicians’ supervision in implementing the health care of Fontbonne student-athletes.
- Serves as the Health Care Administrator, providing the management and tracking of insurance claims; insurance billing; assistance to student-athletes in navigating locally provided medical care (e.g., scheduling appointments, diagnostic imaging); sustaining and enhancing relationships with local medical providers; and maintaining medical files (e.g., history and injury reports);
- Oversees student-athlete insurance program including bid process and enrollment. Ensures medical coverage per Fontbonne and/or NCAA standards.
- Ensure all student-athletes are pre-certified and cleared to participate in collegiate sports.
- Coordinates hardship documentation for the NCAA and/or the sport’s conference.
- Responsible for supervision of work study students, interns, and serve as a preceptor for Saint Louis University ATP students.
- Assists coaching staff in developing programs that aid in the prevention of injuries; ensure appropriate Athletics personnel are trained in and implement concussion protocols and any additional health related areas.
- Maintain timely and accurate medical records using Healthy Roster Documentation System.
- HIPAA designated employee responsible for administering and handling the Personal Health Information of College employees and their dependents confidentially.
- Work with and provide sports coverage for assigned teams.
- Situational traveling.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education) (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education) accredited college/university
- 1-2 years athletic training experience
- NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) and BOC (Board of Certification) Certified and eligible for licensure in the state of Missouri
- Certifications in CPR and AED
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree
- NATA member in good standing
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and procedures
